gnarly performance greens review

If you look around in health food stores or on the internet, you’ll likely find your fair share of so-called “greens” or “superfoods” supplements. These products are dramatically rising in popularity due to the fact that consumers see them as a very convenient way to add in boatloads of nutrition.

Of course, a lot of the products out there have questionable ingredients, lack effective dosages, and simply aren’t worth their weight. However, it is our job to help you figure out which ones are actually worth buying. To that end, we’re going to take a closer look at one greens superfood supplement called Gnarly Performance Greens.

In this Gnarly Performance Greens review, we’ll discuss everything you need to know about this greens superfood. We’ll dive into this powder’s ingredients, claims, benefits, pricing, and more so you can find out if it’s truly worth using.

Gnarly Performance Greens

About Gnarly Performance Greens

Gnarly Performance Greens is created by Gnarly Nutrition, the same maker as the well-known protein powder Gnarly Whey Protein. Gnarly Performance Greens is a whole-food nutrition supplement designed particularly for active individuals. It contains a wide array of plant-based ingredients, including roots, fruits, grasses, herbs, leafy greens, seeds, and more- all of which are designed to nourish your body with vitamins, minerals, and other micronutrients you need to recover and perform at your best.

Gnarly Performance Greens contains no proprietary blends, so you know exactly how much of each ingredient is included, and most of the ingredients are organic.

Gnarly Performance Greens Benefits

In addition to supporting your overall health, Gnarly Performance Greens is specifically designed to enhance performance, increase energy levels, and promote better recovery, while also lowering blood pressure, cholesterol, and more.

Gnarly Performance Greens contains a number of ingredients designed to get you going and enhance your energy and performance, such as cordyceps, Reishi, and ginseng.

Better Recovery

All of the plant substances in Gnarly Performance Greens aid in decreasing inflammation and oxidative stress and can promote recovery. But specific ingredients such as Turmeric and flax seed are supposed to enhance these benefits even further.

Overall Health and Wellness

There are so many superfoods in Gnarly Performance Greens that may improve blood flow, reduce blood pressure and cholesterol, improve immunity, and overall just benefit your health. Some examples of what’s in here are chlorella, wheat grass, spinach, carrot, kelp, and pomegranate, to name just a few.

If this initial description has you enticed, be sure to continue reading this Gnarly Performance Greens review, where we put the hammer down on whether this greens supplement is actually worth going on your shelf.

Gnarly Performance Greens Ingredients

Gnarly Performance Greens contains an assortment of different ingredients. Unlike other options such as All Day Energy Greens or Teami Greens Superfood Powder, though, none of Gnarly Performance Green’s ingredients are listed under proprietary blends (score!). They do have specific groups of ingredients based on what they say are the main benefits, but every ingredient has its own listed dosage.

Chlorella, Spirulina, and Kelp

Let’s start off this analysis by looking at three ingredients from the sea: chlorella, Spirulina, and kelp. All three of these are different types of algae and are some of the most nutrient-dense sea vegetables in existence.

These forms of algae are high in antioxidants, chlorophyll, B-vitamins, iron, calcium, iodine, and much more. They even are high in essential amino acids and in fatty acids too!

A lot of research has shown that these types of algae possess anti-inflammatory, cholesterol-reducing, antioxidant, anti-hypertensive, immune-supportive, anti-cancer, anti-viral, and even energy-enhancing effects.

Wheat Grass, Oat Grass, Barley Grass, and Alfalfa Sprout

Up next, we have three forms of cereal grasses (wheat, oat, and barley) as well as alfalfa sprout, which is grouped here due to its similar nutritional composition to these three cereal grasses. All of these foods are loaded with nutrients, such as chlorophyll, enzymes, vitamins A, C, E, and K, calcium, magnesium, sulfur, other minerals, and amino acids.

Some of the known health benefits of cereal grasses are sleep promotion, blood pressure regulation, immune enhancement, liver protection, anti-cancer activity, antioxidant effects, cholesterol reduction, blood sugar improvement, and improved digestion, among more things!

Also, cereal grasses can easily be turned into powders and extracts that can increase the nutritional value of many food products, so they are easily implemented.

Freeze Dried Coconut Water

Another ingredient in Gnarly Performance Greens is freeze-dried coconut water. Coconut water is rich in vitamins, electrolytes, minerals, and antioxidants, all of which can boost health and contribute to athletic performance. Now, the freeze-drying process is beneficial because it preserves more of the nutrients and can make the nutritional value nearly identical to fresh coconut water.

Other Plant Ingredients: Spinach, Kale, Parsley, Carrot, and Tomato

To round out the Concentrated Plan-Based Nutrition group, we have spinach, kale, parsley, carrot, and tomato. These foods are also very high in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other phytochemicals, but their exact makeup depends on the exact food.

Spinach, kale, and parsley are pretty similar in that they’re loaded with vitamin K and contain solid amounts of vitamin C, fiber, calcium, and antioxidants, among other nutrients. Research also links these three vegetables to better heart health, weight loss, and a decreased risk for cancer and many diseases.

The humble carrot and tomato also have many of their own health benefits. Carrots are rich in vitamin k, antioxidants (e.g., beta-carotene), fiber, vitamin A, and more. And tomatoes are best known for their lycopene content, a critical antioxidant, along with vitamin C, potassium, folate, and vitamin k. These two vegetables are also associated with a reduced risk of heart disease and cancer, as well as improved immunity, vision, and skin health.

Now you can see why your momma told ya to eat those vegetables on your plate!

Blood Flow Enhancers: Beet, Pomegranate, and Tart Cherry

One of the first “blends” to look at is the Blood Flow blend, which contains beet, pomegranate, and tart cherry (remember that each ingredient has its own listed dosage). These three fruits are all very rich in polyphenols which are a potent class of antioxidants.

Supplementing with beet, pomegranate, and tart cherry may help to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress while also increasing blood flow and reducing muscle damage. Overall, these three appear beneficial for physically active people due to their effects on recovery, endurance, and strength.

Energy and Endurance: Cordyceps, Reishi, and Asian Ginseng

Gnarly Performance Greens also has an Energy and Endurance category, which includes Cordyceps, Reishi, and Asian ginseng. While all of these have many benefits, the reason they’re included in this product is likely for their adaptogenic and performance-enhancing properties.

All of these act as adaptogens which help to control the body’s response to stress while also enhancing mental and physical performance. Significant research shows that all three of these can improve exercise performance, reduce mental and physical fatigue, and even combat anxiety

Recovery and Inflammation: Turmeric, Chia Seed, and Flax Seed

Up next are three ingredients touted for their potent anti-inflammatory and recovery actions: Turmeric, chia seed, and flax seed. Turmeric is a very well-known and widely used spice due mainly to its curcumin content. It can help reduce inflammation, improve metabolism, and reduce joint pain and other physical pain.

And then we have chia seeds and flax seeds, which are somewhat similar in that they are both high in antioxidants (e.g., lignans) as well as omega-3 fatty acids, which can help to reduce inflammation and promote recovery.

Digestion and Nutrient Assimilation: Ginger, BioPerine, and Cayenne

Also included are ginger, BioPerine (black pepper extract), and cayenne. All three of these ingredients are able to enhance digestion and nutrient assimilation, which helps to amplify the effects of all of the other ingredients. Plus, they have other benefits, too, such as decreasing nausea, bloating, and indigestion, and even promoting a healthy gut microbiome

Probiotics: Lactospore

The final ingredient in Gnarly Performance Greens is Lactospore, which is a trademarked form of Bacillus coagulans, a probiotic. All probiotics are beneficial because they increase the number of “good” bacteria in the gut, which can help with digestion, but also other areas connected to the gut, such as the immune system, brain, and even metabolism.

Plus, this form of bacteria is able to withstand the acidic gastric environment, which makes it able to reach the small intestines and other areas of the GI tract where it can really yield its benefits.

Does Gnarly Performance Greens Work?

Gnarly Performance Greens definitely looks like a solid greens/superfoods supplement and should work pretty well. It has so many different vegetables, fruits, herbs, grasses, and other healthy substances that contribute to energy, endurance, performance, recovery, immunity, and overall health and wellness.

Each of the ingredients contains many different vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fatty acids, and more, all of which provide health benefits. Plus, the inclusion of probiotics and other digestive-enhancers helps to maximize the absorbability of every ingredient while also aiding gut health.

When it comes to the dosage, this is where it can get sort of confusing because there really isn’t a standard recommended dosage for plant concentrates. However, the total weight of the plant concentrates in Gnarly Performance Greens is a little over 8 grams. And considering that most ingredients are generally used in research with at least 1 gram, this overall dosage is a bit low. Even still, it’s hard to tell whether or not the dosage is really suboptimal since there isn’t enough research yet.

Overall, Gnarly Performance Greens is a solid blend of some of the best superfoods out there.

Claims vs. Reality

I wouldn’t expect any major improvements in energy, performance, recovery, or overall health and wellness simply because it’s unclear what the optimal dosage should be. What is known is that all of the ingredients in Gnarly Performance Greens contribute to your overall health and wellness, so you should experience some improvements in energy, endurance, performance, immunity, inflammation, and other things… it’s just not clear to what degree.

In short, Gnarly Performance Greens should be a good addition to your current regimen, but it might not do anything spectacular.
