MoodBiotic Review

The gut-brain axis has received a lot of attention lately, both in research and in the general public, for its possible effects on overall health.

And one way to potentially improve the gut-brain axis is through probiotic supplementation, which can help feed the gut microbiome with the healthy bacteria that it needs to function optimally.

Even further, there seem to be some specific probiotic strains that are better at enhancing mental health than others, or at least that’s what Natural Stacks thinks with their MoodBiotic product.

So, in this article, we’ll go over a supplement called MoodBiotic to see how well it can work as a probiotic supplement for the gut-brain axis.

Continue reading this MoodBiotic review to see what it’s all about, the specific probiotics in it, the potential benefits, and ultimately if it’s worth buying!

Natural Stacks Supplements

Natural Stacks MoodBiotic supplement is a premium blend of probiotic strains designed to support the gut-brain axis and thus optimize mental and cognitive health.

MoodBiotic contains 4 different probiotic strains, which they say are able to populate the gut and enhance gut health, while also leading to enhanced brain health via the gut-brain axis.

MoodBiotic Benefits

The main listed benefits of MoodBiotic are:

  • Gut-Brain Axis Optimization
  • Decreased Brain Fog
  • Memory Support
  • Stress Relief

Gut-Brain Axis Optimization

It all starts here, as most of the other benefits stem from this one. MoodBiotic is advertised to optimize the gut-brain axis by using scientifically supported probiotic strains specific to gut-brain functioning.

Decreased Brain Fog

MoodBiotic is also touted to decrease brain fog by providing neuroprotective effects and decreasing inflammation in the gut and brain.

Memory Support

Natural Stacks also says that some of the probiotics in MoodBiotic are able to enhance and support memory, partly by decreasing neuroinflammation but also by enhancing overall neuronal health.

Stress Relief

Finally, some of the strains in MoodBiotic are supposed to help relieve anxiety, depression, and stress by decreasing inflammation and increasing levels of key neurotransmitters involved in mental health.

So, are you ready to see if MoodBiotic will actually work as a probiotic for the gut-brain axis?

If so, continue reading!

MoodBiotic Ingredients

MoodBiotic contains 4 different probiotic strains totaling 6 Billion CFU in all. The 4 strains are:

  • Lactobacillus helveticus
  • Lactobacillus plantarum
  • Bifidobacterium longum
  • Lactobacillus brevis
moodbiotic supplement facts

Lactobacillus helveticus and Bifidobacterium longum

Lactobacillus helveticus and Bifidobacterium are two probiotic strains most known for their mental health benefits. Plus, they’re often used together in research studies, which is why we grouped them up. You can find Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium varieties in many probiotic supplements, including Renew Life Probiotics

These two strains decrease gut inflammation and appear to enhance gut-brain axis functioning, while also increasing levels of some neurotransmitters, including serotonin.

Studies have shown that taking the combo of Lactobacillus helveticus and Bifidobacterium longum helps to reduce anxiety, depression, and psychological distress, while also reducing the stress hormone, cortisol.

Lactobacillus plantarum

Lactobacillus plantarum is another probiotic strain with quite a bit of research behind it for mental and cognitive health.

In one study in stressed adults, Lactobacillus plantarum was shown to decrease anxiety and stress while also enhancing memory and some aspects of cognition, such as verbal learning.

Lactobacillus plantarum can also increase brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and serotonin production, which makes it potentially beneficial for learning, memory, and mood.

Lactobacillus brevis

The last strain in MoodBiotic is Lactobacillus brevis.

Lactobacillus has been shown to increase BDNF and serotonin production, and it also has functions to improve memory and neurogenesis.

Plus, it appears to be able to reduce inflammation in the gut and brain, which can further aid memory and cognitive function.

Lactobacillus brevis can also help to reduce anxiety and depression while managing the autonomic nervous system, even helping with sleep.

Does MoodBiotic Work?

Taken together, it’s likely that MoodBiotic will be an effective probiotic supplement for mental and cognitive health.

All of the strains have solid research behind them, including a few recent human studies, all showing that they can reduce depression, anxiety, and stress, increase BDNF, and improve learning, memory, and cognition. This is some pretty cool stuff! And it all comes from microscopic species.

Plus, these Lactobacillius and Bifidobacterium strains are all resistant to stomach acid, which makes them able to reach the colon, where they have their greatest effects.

The only issue is that I’d like to see the CFU count a little higher, preferably around 10 Billion CFU, but 6 Billion CFU is still solid.

Claims vs. Reality

All in all, MoodBiotic should be able to support the gut-brain axis, aid memory, and provide some relief from stress, anxiety, and depression.

However, it probably isn’t a cure for these problems, so don’t think that taking MoodBiotic will diminish all of your mental health or cognitive problems, even though it definitely should help.

And as for its ability to decrease “brain fog” this kind of depends on what is meant by that since that’s not a very specific term.

But MoodBiotic should be able to provide the brain with healthier levels of neurotransmitters and other things it needs to function properly, so it should help in that way, whether this means it decreases brain fog or not.

Most of the studies on probiotics and mental/cognitive health are done in healthy people or those with mild to moderate issues, so anyone with severe problems may not see as much of a benefit from products like this.

Also, probiotics can take some time to build up in the body, so it’s likely that you won’t notice maximal benefits until a few weeks or so.

Who is MoodBiotic Best For?

MoodBiotic is best for people who want a probiotic supplement to aid their mental and cognitive health. Specifically, MoodBiotic is a good choice if you want to lower anxiety, depression, and stress, while possibly improving memory and cognitive function.
