Whether it is a good thing or not, we live in a society that places a high premium on appearances of youth and vitality. People buy all kinds of products to help reduce their wrinkles, rejuvenate their skin, and promote healthy bodily functioning.

One particular market targeted by the youth and vitality crowd is products made for thinning hair. Considering that nearly 2 in 3 men and 1 in 3 women will experience hair loss in their lifetime, there is a huge market for hair loss supplements and treatments.

Ouai (pronounced “way”) is one such hair supplement. The Ouai brand consists of three different supplements, one aimed at those it dry airs, one for excessively oily hair, and another aimed at those with thinning hair. Today we are going to focus specifically on Ouai’s thinning hair treatment and answer some important questions consumers might have, specifically its pros, cons, efficacy, cost, and whether it is worth the hype.

Overview: Ouai Hair Thinning Supplement

Ouai’s hair thinning supplement is a daily supplement meant to stimulate hair growth and prevent excess hair loss. Ouai contains a blend of biotin, silica, and amino acids; all compounds that have been shown to be involved in stimulating hair growth and protecting hair. Ouai also contains Ashwagandha, an ancient herb that is known for its use in traditional Indian medicine. Ashwagandha has been used for over 3,000 years to increase energy, manage stress, and improve concentration.

Ouai comes in a convenient pill form. Just take one pill orally every day and your hair will get longer, thicker, and stronger. It takes about 90 days to really kick in, so you’ll have to stick with it for a while before seeing results. Ouai also contains MSM, a sulfur-based compound found to increase hair growth and Omega-3 fatty acids, which improves sheen and shine. Although it is mostly marketed for women, Ouai is used by many men too.

  • Stimulates hair growth and strengthen existing hair
  • Easy to take; just ingest one pill every morning with breakfast
  • Works for both men and women
  • Contains MSM, biotin, and amino acids necessary for keratin production
  • Contains Omega-3 fatty acids

Who Makes Ouai?

Ouai Founder

Ouai is the brainchild of famous celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkins, who is considered to be one of the most influential hairstylists in the world. In addition to being the owner/founder of Ouia, she also is the founder of the digital magazine ManeAddicts, a publication aimed at giving hair care tips, tricks, and covering fads.

Ouai was launched in 2016 as an online store and subscription service. The word Ouai comes from the slang version of the French word “oui” meaning “yes.”Atkins chose the word so that the brand would sound casual and unpretentious. In 2018, Ouai and Atkins partnered with popular makeup retailer Sephora and Ouai’s products can be found in stores nationwide.

Ouai offers a large selection of personal beauty care products aside from its thinning hair supplement, including conditioners, hair sprays, body creams, and moisturizers. The Ouai hair supplement line was created with the help of Lamees Hamdan, a Dubai-based dermatologist.

What Ingredients Are in Ouai?

Ouai’s main ingredients are as follows:

  • MSM
  • Ashwagandha
  • Amino acids
  • Biotin
  • Omega-3 fatty acids

MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) is a popular dietary supplement that contains sulfur. MSM is used for all kinds of issues including joint pain, inflammation, and a weak immune system. MSM promotes the growth of keratin, the main structural protein that hair is made from.

Ashwagandha is an herb from India and southern Asia that has historically used to manage stress and energize. Ashwagandha has been shown to reduce levels of the stress hormone cortisol, which contributes to anxiety and hair loss. There is also some evidence that ashwagandha can increase fertility and antioxidant count in men.

Both amino acids and biotin are involved in numerous processes in the body. While there is not much evidence showing that biotin or amino acids alone can help prevent hair loss and strengthen hair growth, decreased amino acid levels and low vitamin B levels are associated with hair loss. Most of the time, hair loss is not caused by one single thing or deficiency so no one chemical will fix the problem.

Lastly, omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to increase hair thickness and strength.

How Does Ouai Work?

Ouai Thinning Hair Supplement Products

Basically, Ouai works by giving your body a blend of macronutrients and vitamins that induce hair growth and strengthen hair. The main way it does this is by managing cortisol levels and stimulating the production of keratin proteins that make up hair. It takes around 90 days for your body to get used to these changes and start seeing results.

Safety and Side-Effects

Too much biotin can cause insomnia, excessive urination, and low vitamin C, though Ouai does not contain enough Biotin to cause these effects unless you take half the jar at once. Otherwise, Ouai does not have any known side effects aside from a possible upset stomach which is very common when someone starts taking new supplements.

One warning though: since Ouai might have an effect on hormone levels, it is not recommended that pregnant women take it.

Where to Buy Ouai

Ouai Thinning Hair Supplement: Worth It or Not?

If you have the patience and time to devote 90 days, then we would recommend using Ouai. The ingredients have all been independently shown to have beneficial effects and that main hair supplement product line is designed with the help of a professional dermatologist.
