Naked Shake Review

Protein powders have been on the market for quite some time, but an option that is becoming increasingly popular today is vegan protein powder. Often, many people on vegan diets have more trouble getting enough protein compared to their conventional dieting counterparts, so a protein powder can be a simple solution to this issue.

Of course, quality is always an important thing to consider. Thus, with so many protein powder options out on the market, it is important to know if the option you’re considering is truly worth using. So let’s take a look at one popular option in the vegan protein powder world called Naked Shake. This Naked Nutrition protein powder claims to provide all the protein you need to meet your daily goals. Is it the right pick? We’ll find out in this Naked Shake review!

About Naked Shake

As referenced, Naked Shake is a vegan protein powder supplement. It is created by Naked Nutrition, a company that provides various vegan-oriented supplements. In addition to Naked Shake, Naked Nutrition has also produced a variety of popular options, many of which we have reviewed, including the below:

Besides being vegan, the Naked Shake is gluten-free, GMO-free, soy-free, and dairy-free, so you can see that they put the time to eliminate foods that are potential allergens or are otherwise concerning for some people. Naked Shake is supposed to simply be a way for vegans to tastefully add to their daily protein requirements.

Naked Shake Benefits

The main claimed benefits of Naked Shake are that it will help you reach your daily protein goals, help you to preserve lean muscle mass, and aid in weight loss. All of this is primarily attributed to their main ingredient, pea protein, but there are other players that we will look into shortly. But to see if Naked Shake can really provide these benefits (and maybe help you look better naked too…) read on below!

Naked Shake Ingredients

Naked Shake comes in three different flavors so there are a few different ingredients among those flavors, but here are the common denominators in all of them (i.e. the main ingredients):

  • Pea Protein
  • MCT Oil
  • Coconut Sugar
  • Natural Plant Based Flavors
  • Acacia Fiber
  • Monk Fruit Extract
Naked Nutrition Naked Shake - Supplement Facts

Each serving (2 scoops) provides 20 grams of protein and anywhere from 7 to 9 grams of carbs and 1.5 to 2.5g of fat, depending on the flavor.

Pea Protein

Given that Naked Shake is a protein supplement, pea protein is the primary ingredient. Pea protein has a relatively high protein content percentage (81%) and it is also a good source of all of the essential amino acids, with the exception of methionine. The essential amino acids are vital because they can’t be created by the body, so they have to be consumed through your diet.

Also, the protein digestibility of pea protein is much higher than most other plant-based proteins. Research on pea protein shows that it may be just as effective as whey protein for exercise recovery, though more research is likely needed. Pea protein can also increase feelings of fullness, reduce blood glucose, improve cholesterol levels, and lower blood pressure. Overall, pea protein seems to be very healthy for a wide range of people.

MCT Oil

The next ingredient in Naked Shake is MCT Oil. MCT stands for medium-chain trigycerides, which is a type of fat. Some research shows that MCT are more satiating than long-chain triglycerides (LCT) and they may be able to reduce energy intake. There also may be benefits of MCT on cardiovascular health, but researchers are just starting to understand these effects.

Coconut Sugar

The third ingredient in here is coconut sugar, which is made from coconut palm sap. Coconut sugar has a lower glycemic index than table sugar and is overall a healthier alternative to the latter. Even still, it is unlikely to provide any real benefits. The main thing here is that it’s just a healthier sweetener than most others, but it is still a sweetener.

Natural Plant Based Flavors

Naked Shake also includes various natural plant-based flavors in each of the three varieties of this product. Since these are not specifically listed, they cannot be reviewed. The only thing to say is that natural flavors are likely healthier than artificial ones, so that is a plus.

Acacia Fiber

Next up we have acacia fiber, which is a soluble fiber that comes from the sap of the Acacia tree. Acacia fiber resists digestion and ends up in the large intestine where microbiota (gut bacteria) can act on it. It is known that fiber of all types benefits the gut and may also provide benefits to the brain and central nervous system, immune system, cardiovascular system, and much more. Despite this, Naked Shake doesn’t contain enough of it as it says the product contains 0 grams of fiber. So, there are likely no benefits from this ingredient.

Monk Fruit Extract

The final ingredient in Naked Shake is monk fruit extract. Monk fruit is actually an herb, so this is an herbal extract. Monk fruit is up to 300x as sweet as sucrose, so it provides a much easier way to sweeten products while providing hardly any calories. Monk fruit also contains healthy compounds, such as triterpenoids, flavonoids, vitamins, and minerals.

Does Naked Shake Work?

After taking a look at Naked Shake, it will likely be a solid vegan protein supplement. With its combination of research-backed protein and other ingredients, the evidence shows that it is an overall nutritious shake. One issue is that, since everyone’s protein needs are different, 20 grams of protein may not be optimal for everyone. Regardless, it will at the very least help everyone to reach their protein goals.

Claims vs. Reality

Naked Shake is supposed to help you to reach your daily protein needs, preserve lean muscle mass, and aid in weight loss. Based on the ingredients, these are all likely to be true. Pea protein is a great protein source and, with 20 grams per serving, it offers a significant percentage of the daily recommended intake for individuals. It also may be just as effective as the commonly-used whey protein for muscle gain or at least preservation. Pea protein has many other health benefits including increased satiety and healthier cardiometabolic factors (e.g. blood pressure, cholesterol).

Naked-Shake-Label

MCT oil will likely add to the fullness-inducing effects of pea protein and provides a healthy fat source, although there isn’t a whole lot of fat in it per serving. Finally, various flavorings, sweeteners, and other ingredients provide the finishing touches on Naked Shake without providing excess calories.

Who is Naked Shake Best for?

Vegans and vegetarians are definitely the people who would benefit the most from Naked Shake since this product is specifically designed to help those individuals meet their protein needs. Due to the other characteristics of the product, it is also an effective protein supplement for people who are sensitive or allergic to or otherwise concerned about gluten, soy, and/or dairy.

Is Naked Shake Safe?

Due to its inclusion of only natural ingredients, Naked Shake is likely very safe to consume. The only thing to note is potential allergens in the product, such as coconut, pea, and peanut (in one of the flavors). Always check the label to make sure you aren’t allergic or sensitive to the ingredients.
