VisionMD Review

Our eyes can be subject to a lot of stress today, mainly from hours and hours working (or let’s face it…playing too) on laptops, phones, and other devices.

Not to mention the other factors that can impact eye health, such as too much UV exposure, poor general health, and aging.

That’s why a lot of people are looking for natural supplements to support vision and eye health. Among these, one of the more popular ones is VisionMD.

In this VisionMD review, we’ll go over everything you need to know about this supplement to see if it’s truly a top-notch product for those valuable peepers of yours.

VisionMD

About VisionMD

VisionMD is a complete vision and eye support formula created by 1MD Nutrition. This health and wellness company has produced many other supplements for overall health, including:

1MD Nutrition’s VisionMD formula is made up of a mixture of key ingredients specifically recommended by the National Eye Institute. Namely, VisionMD features three clinically-researched, trademarked compounds, Lyc-O-Mato lycopene, EVTene mixed carotenes, and XanMax lutein and zeaxanthin.

Together, these and the other ingredients in VisionMD are designed to deliver powerful nutritional and anti-inflammatory support for your eyes, leading to optimal vision and ocular health.

VisionMD Benefits

1MD VisionMD is advertised to offer a few pivotal benefits:

  • Support for General Eye Health
  • Enhanced Visual Acuity
  • Decreased Age-Related Vision Issues
  • Improved Brain Function
VisionMD Benefits

Support for General Eye Health

VisionMD claims to offer support for general eye health, mainly due to the use of clinically-studied ingredients, such as XanMax carotenoids and Lyc-O-Mato.

They say this formula will provide pivotal nutrients for the eyes while also offering decreased oxidative stress and preventing the eyes from damage. This includes protection from blue light, which many people are exposed to on a highly regular basis.

Enhanced Visual Acuity

Vision problems often manifest as decreased focus and clarity, which can either be short distance, far away, or sometimes both.

VisonMD is advertised to enhance visual acuity and focus, mainly with astaxanthin and XanMax, which deliver carotenoids and other vision-boosting nutrients. Plus, astaxanthin is designed to enhance the integrity of muscles that control eye movement and focus.

Decreased Age-Related Vision Issues

Aging can lead to a number of eye problems, such as blurry, hazy, or double vision.

VisionMD by 1MD Nutrition is advertised to decrease age-related vision issues by preventing eye health deterioration. To do this, they include EVTene, tocopherols, and other nutrients which they claim keep your eyes healthy and strong, while also being more resistant to inflammation and damage.

Improved Brain Function

Interestingly, another proposed benefit of VisionMD is improved brain function. This is in part due to astaxanthin, which they say crosses the blood-brain barrier and enhances cognition.

But it may also occur due to the variety of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds, such as carotenoids, which could decrease brain inflammation and promote sharper cognitive function.

As you can see, VisionMD is definitely targeted for optimal vision health.

But does it actually work as advertised?

Keep reading to find out!

VisionMD Ingredients

The VisionMD formulation has five major ingredients, three of which are trademarked forms:

  • EVTene
  • Vitamin E
  • Lyc-O-Mato
  • XanMax
  • Astaxanthin
VisionMD Supplement Facts

EVTene (1530mcg RAE)

EVTene is a trademarked form of palm oil mixed carotene extract, which also provides a potent source of vitamin A.

The mixed carotenes and vitamin A are all powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds. Plus, vitamin A is crucial for vision and is highly important for retinal health.

Vitamin E (121mg)

VisionMD also contains a mammoth dose of vitamin E (over 800% DV), which is another very important vitamin.

Research shows that vitamin E can decrease oxidative stress and inflammation in the eyes, while also decreasing the risk of various age-related vision problems

Plus, vitamin E is found in high amounts in the retina and is important for maintaining optimal function there.

Lyc-O-Mato (67mg)

Lyc-O-Mato is a trademarked form of tomato fruit extract, which provides 10mg of lycopene.

And lycopene itself is a carotenoid, which has some of the most powerful free radical scavenging effects out there. This means it can control inflammation and oxidative stress in many different areas of the body

For these reasons, it’s also often used in anti-aging supplements such as Xtend-Life Total Balance.

Lycopene could also help prevent eye damage and maintain visual health, mainly due to the anti-inflammatory actions.

XanMax (50mg)

XanMax is a trademarked form of marigold flower extract. It provides 10mg of lutein and 2mg of zeaxanthin, both of which are types of carotenoids, specifically xanthophyll carotenoids.

All that jargon aside, the main thing to understand is that these compounds have very potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects in the eyes and also other areas of the body.

Research shows that lutein and zeaxanthin can improve retinal function and overall eye health, and they also can improve visual acuity.

Additionally, these substances can protect the eyes from light damage and may reduce the risk of some age-related vision problems, such as macular degeneration.

But there are even some benefits for brain function too. Due to the decrease in brain inflammation, XanMax may help to promote better cognitive function.

In fact, Alpha Brain Black Label, a popular nootropic, also uses marigold flower extract with lutein and zeaxanthin, although it’s a different trademarked form.

Astaxanthin (4mg)

The last ingredient in VisionMD is astaxanthin, which is another naturally-occurring carotenoid (can you see the theme of the ingredients, yet?!).

Like the others, astaxanthin offers potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. It also can prevent cell damage, and offers some eye-specific effects, such as increased tear production and improved blood flow to the surrounding eye regions.

There is evidence that astaxanthin supplementation can reduce dry eyes, improve eye strength, and promote healthier vision overall.

Does VisionMD Work?

It is very likely that VisionMD will work for vision and eye support.

All five of the ingredients are very well-researched and proven to offer antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects and help reduce eye damage, improve retinal health, and promote stronger vision.

And, perhaps even more important, these ingredients are all dosed at solid amounts or at the very least within an effective range.

In fact, the ingredients and doses are all very similar to what were used in two large-scale clinical trials on eye health: the AREDS2 study and the CARMIS study.

However, keep in mind that these effects take time to work, usually a couple of months or more for best results. Additionally, it is unlikely that VisionMD will 100% prevent any vision problems nor is it a total treatment for severe eye health issues.

But as a general eye and vision support supplement, it’s a great formula.

VisionMD Supplement

How Does VisionMD Compare?

VisionMD is one of the best vision supplements out there due to the use of clinically-studied ingredients, effective doses, and an overall safe, high-quality formulation.

Another worthwhile vision supplement is Eyetamins Vision Support, which is actually just one product within a line-up of several different Eyetamins products. Vision Support contains lutein and zeaxanthin from clinically-studied Lutemax 2020, which is known to improve vision and decrease age-related eye problems. And they actually use double the dose of each compared to what’s in VisionMD.

Other powerful ingredients are vitamin C, vitamin E, astaxanthin, and bilberry, which offer additional anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. The regular price of Eyetamins Vision Support is $39.95 for 30 servings, while VisionMD costs $44.99 for a one-month supply. But both products have subscription and bulk savings available.

Another supplement with similar benefits is EyePromise Restore. This product also contains lutein, zeaxanthin, and vitamin E alpha-tocopherol, just like VisionMd. They also have a variety of other anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compounds such as vitamin C, alpha-lipoic acid, and CoQ10.

Overall, EyePromiseRestore is a high-quality formulation, although VisionMD may offer slightly more eye-specific effects. EyePromise Restore is priced at $35.95 for 30 servings.

Who is VisionMD Best For?

VisionMD is best for people who want to maintain optimal visual and eye health for as long as possible, while decreasing the risk of age-related vision problems.

It can be used by people who already have good eyes and want to keep them that way, or for those who are starting to experience some eye problems but don’t want those to get any worse.
