Huel Daily Greens Ingredients
Huel Daily Greens is the biggest formula we’ve seen from greens powders. It contains 91 ingredients, which is even more than some of the largest formulas like Athletic Greens and X.
We won’t list every ingredient, but here are the main categories for the ingredients in Huel Daily Greens:
- Plant-Based Protein and Superfood Blend
- Organic Antioxidant Greens Blend
- Organic Superfruit Blend
- Organic Adaptogen and Super Mushroom Complex
- Organic Botanical Blend
- Probiotics
- Vitamins
- Minerals
(You can take a look at the nutrition label below if you want to see the specifics for each blend).
Plant-Based Protein and Superfood Blend (8,934mg)
The largest component of Huel Daily Greens by weight is the Plant-Based Protein and Superfood Blend. This blend contains pea protein and mung bean protein, as well as other plant superfoods such as chia seeds, quinoa, gluten-free oats, flaxseed, and tapioca starch.
Both pea protein and mung bean protein are high-quality plant proteins that contain many of the essential amino acids and have a high bioavailability. However, looking at the label, we see only 3g of protein per serving, so these are hardly doing much in the way of muscle support.
Perhaps the better component of this blend is all of the rich fiber sources, including tapioca starch, chia seeds, flaxseeds, gluten-free oats, and sprouted quinoa.
Now, we’re not looking at a huge amount of fiber here as it’s only 2g per serving. But still, it may provide a variety of prebiotic fibers to support gut health and digestion.
These plant foods have other benefits too, such as for metabolism, heart health, and brain function, but it’s unclear how much of each is in here due to the proprietary blend.
Organic Antioxidant Greens Blend (2,594mg)
The Organic Antioxidant Greens Blend consists of many different greens, such as spirulina, broccoli, spinach, nettle, green tea, and kale for some of the more notable ones.
These greens offer numerous nutrients including vitamins A, C, E, and K, some B-complex vitamins such as folate, iron, omega fatty acids, fiber sources, magnesium, calcium, and various antioxidants such as carotenoids.
Possible benefits from these foods are inflammatory control, detoxification, gut support, metabolic improvement, immune support, and simply put, better overall wellness.
But the overall dose here isn’t very high at just over 2.5g. Considering that a minimum of 1g of spirulina alone is typically needed for health benefits it’s likely that these are underdosed. But given that they do offer similar benefits this may not be as big of a concern.
Organic Superfruit Blend (508mg)
The Organic Superfruit Blend is featured by a host of different fruits, including elderberry, raspberry, tart cherry, tomato, plantain, and apple.
Just like with the vegetables above, these fruits provide many different nutrients. In particular, fruits are very high in polyphenols and other antioxidants, such as anthocyanins. They are especially beneficial for heart health, brain function, metabolism, and immunity.
You also get a lot of vitamin C, fiber, potassium, and other micronutrients to support all-around health.
But once again, Huel Daily Greens has a low dose at only 508mg per serving. This has the potential to do something but still is lower than optimal, and most likely not equivalent to getting a good dose of fruits in your diet.
Organic Adaptogen and Super Mushroom Complex (173mg)
The Organic Adaptogen and Super Mushroom Complex is filled with some of the top herbal adaptogens out there, such as ashwagandha, ginseng, maca, rhodiola, lemon balm, and reishi mushroom.
Ashwagandha, ginseng, maca, and Rhodiola are all adaptogenic herbs that can help the body deal with stress. This can lead to improved energy, decreased anxiety, and enhanced physical and mental performance.
Then we see a few calming herbs such as lemon balm which can improve sleep and reduce anxiety.
Huel Daily Greens also added in functional mushrooms, such as shiitake and reishi, which provide gut-boosting prebiotic fibers and may also enhance immune function, among other benefits.
There are also other potential gut boosters too, including ginger and marshmallow root. These have prebiotics and help feed good bacteria in the gut while also enhancing gut barrier function.
But with all these potential benefits, we hate to say that, once again, the dose is underwhelming. The total dose for all these ingredients combined is only 173mg. And given that ashwagandha alone is typically needed at 200mg, Rhodiola alone at 100mg, and some of the functional mushrooms at 1,000mg, it’s clear that these aren’t dosed high.
It’d be one thing if they were close to the mark, given that there are similar benefits. But the total dose just really isn’t even close. With as many ingredients in it, it should be AT LEAST 750mg or so.
Organic Botanical Blend (122mg)
The Organic Botanical Blend contains several more herbs, including cinnamon, burdock, dandelion, echinacea, hawthorn, hibiscus, and lemongrass.
Cinnamon is a great herb for controlling blood sugar and also has antioxidant effects.
Burdock and dandelion are both great detoxifiers and may help support liver function, while also enhancing digestion and gut health.
Echinacea, hawthorn, hibiscus, and lemongrass are all high in antioxidants which may provide general support for inflammation, immune function, and overall wellness.
But as you probably guessed by now, the dose for this blend is unremarkable too.
Probiotics (3mg)
Huel Daily Greens contains two probiotics: Bacillus coagulans and Bifidobacterium bifidum.
These two probiotics can reestablish gut microbiome health by increasing good bacteria while decreasing pathogenic bacteria. They may also reduce digestive symptoms such as bloating and upset stomach.
However, they labeled the dose in milligrams, which isn’t really relevant because we can’t see the total CFU count, which is most important to judge for probiotics’ potential effectiveness.
Vitamins and Minerals
Huel Daily Greens includes all of the essential vitamins, 10 of the essential minerals, and a few other trace micronutrients.
We won’t go over every vitamin and mineral, but just understand that all of these micronutrients are essential for pretty much every bodily function and help maintain optimal health and wellness.
It’s good to see that most of these are bioavailable forms (such as methylcobolamin for vitamin B12 and menaquinone-7 for vitamin K) but there are also a couple that are poorly absorbed, such as magnesium oxide and zinc oxide.
In terms of daily value, Huel Daily Greens provided over 100% for some of the B-complex vitamins, vitamins A, C, D, E, and K, zinc, and chromium.
While it may seem good initially to have a really high dose for these, it may not be necessary and could put some people over their recommended allowance.
Does Huel Daily Greens Work?
Overall, it seems that Huel Daily Greens might not provide that many benefits. It definitely has the potential to produce SOME benefits, especially given the wide array of vitamins and minerals that can help you overcome nutritional deficiencies.
But it just doesn’t live up to the hype for all the other benefits and claims.
Huel Daily Greens certainly has a massive amount of healthy ingredients. But they seemed to have underdosed nearly all of these and sacrificed ingredient quality and dosage for total quantity.
This wouldn’t be as big of a deal if the doses were somewhat high. But a lot of the time, Huel Daily Greens has doses that are way off the mark. So, it’s unlikely that you’ll receive any major benefits for energy, stress, sleep, immunity, digestion, detoxification, heart health, or the other areas they mention.
Is it a decent supportive supplement that can contribute to healthy living? Sure.
But it’s not a great superfood supplement nor will it likely contribute major health benefits.
How Does Huel Daily Greens Compare?
If you’re looking for a greens/superfood supplement, there are better options. Huel Daily Greens has the most ingredients out of any other greens formula, but the very low doses of key ingredients make it fall below some of the better greens powders out there.
For example, let’s look at Supergreen Tonik. It has 38 ingredients, which is much lower than Huel Daily Greens, but still a high number. And more importantly, they use a fully transparent label, and we can see that many of the ingredients are dosed properly. Supergreen Tonik has a great mix of greens (e.g. spirulina, spinach), vitamins, minerals, herbs (e.g. dandelion), and nootropics and adaptogens, such as ashwagandha, Rhodiola, and theanine.
Also, Supergreen Tonik took the time to include proper doses. For example, there are 2,000mg of spirulina (with over 7g total of greens), 300mg of Rhodiola, 500mg of ashwagandha, and high doses of many vitamins and minerals. Additionally, it’s third-party tested. However, Supergreen Tonik is definitely high-priced though at $87 for 30 servings, whereas Huel Daily Greens is $56.50 for 30 servings.
That is just one example, but it’s a common theme we’ve seen when comparing Huel Daily Greens to other top greens powders, such as Kiala Super Greens or Primal Harvest Greens.
Who is Huel Daily Greens Best For?
Huel Daily Greens is best for people mainly looking for a multivitamin and mineral supplement with extra superfood ingredients for general health support.
It’s likely not the best choice for people who want a high-dosed superfood formula.
How to Take Huel Daily Greens
Huel Daily Greens comes as a powder. Mix one scoop with 8oz of water every morning. They say you can start with a half-scoop to assess any side effects and your tolerance.
Is Huel Daily Greens Safe?
Huel Daily Greens contains well over 100% of the Daily Value for certain vitamins and minerals, which could cause toxicity if taken long-term.
Also, there certainly are many different ingredients in here. And while they’re generally recognized as safe, there are possible side effects, especially from the different herbs and botanicals. These include:
- Allergic reactions
- Upset stomach
- Diarrhea
- Other digestive symptoms
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Mood changes
- Itching
Huel Daily Greens is made in the USA in a cGMP, FDA-registered facility. It is non-GMO, 100% vegan, gluten-free, and free of artificial colors, flavors, and sweeteners.
Where to Buy Huel Daily Greens
You can buy Huel Daily Greens on the Huel website at this link.
There are 30 servings (30 scoops) per container. The regular price is $56.50 ($1.88/serving), although this gets lowered to $45 ($1.50/serving) with their Subscribe & Save option. You can get that delivered from every one to 10 weeks.
These prices aren’t too bad for a superfood supplement. But considering the relatively low doses for many of the ingredients, you don’t get a whole lot per serving so it may not be worth it depending on what you’re after.
Huel also has a 30-Day Return Policy.
Verdict: Huel Daily Greens Review
Huel Daily Greens initially seemed to be a greens superstar, boasting 91 ingredients with many different vitamins, minerals, herbs, fruits, vegetables, and superfoods.
However, this formula is dosed very low for most of the ingredients which greatly limits the potential effectiveness. There still are possible health benefits mainly due to the vitamins and minerals included. And it’s possible that the sheer number of superfoods, herbs, etc. will offer you SOME health improvements.
But Huel Daily Greens could ultimately be better. And if you’re looking primarily for a superfood supplement with high doses of herbs, greens, etc., then there are better options. But if you mainly want a multivitamin and mineral with added “bonus” ingredients, then this may be a good choice.
