Bulletproof Greens Review

There is certainly an abundance of greens supplements out there today. And all of them are generally designed to enhance energy, cognition, and overall health and wellness.

But it’s important to separate the cream from the crop because many of these greens products are either low quality, ineffective, poor tasting, or some combination.

Yet, Bulletproof Greens is a product we found that looks initially to be one of the better ones.

As a holistic health practitioner, I make sure that consumers are getting effective, high-quality, and safe supplements. And many times greens products are a desire.

So in this Bulletproof Greens review, I’ll go over the ingredients, benefits, aspects of safety and quality, and other factors to determine if it’s worth buying to fuel your health and wellness.

Bulletproof Greens

About Bulletproof Greens

Bulletproof Greens is one of many nutritional supplements made by Bulletproof. This popular company was founded by Dave Asprey back in 2011 and has since produced a variety of well-known options, including Bulletproof Collagen Protein, Bulletproof InnerFuel Prebiotic, Bulletproof Collagen Protein Bars, and Bulletproof Brain Octane Oil

Bulletproof Products

Asprey is a popular biohacker and health and wellness specialist who also created the Bulletproof Diet and Bulletproof Coffee.

Their greens product is designed to be a daily greens supplement for the body and mind.

It is loaded with 35 superfoods, vitamins, minerals, and digestive aids. Not to mention various nootropics for cognitive enhancement and a full serving of vegetables.

Bulletproof Greens is specifically crafted to fill key nutritional gaps that plague many people today, while also offering other ingredients to enhance digestion and brain function.

Plus, they claim to only use science-backed, clinical ingredients to make sure you’re putting only the best stuff in your body.

And last but not least, Bulletproof added in stevia and a little fruity flavor into their Greens product to make it…you know…less vegetable-tasting.

Fill in Nutritional Gaps

It’s safe to say that many people don’t get in enough micronutrients these days. But Bulletproof Greens claims to offer a full serving of vegetables alongside a healthy dose of fruits, thus helping fill in common nutritional gaps.

Enhanced Cognitive Function

One of the unique proposed benefits of Bulletproof Greens is enhanced cognitive function. This superfood supplement contains a few nootropics, such as Panax ginseng and citicoline to get your brain firing on all cylinders. It’s also advertised to support focus and attention too.

Stress Management

If you live in the modern world, chances are you have a high stress load on a regular basis. Fortunately, Bulletproof Greens is advertised to offer stress support with the inclusion of various adaptogens and herbal compounds including Lion’s mane and cordyceps mushrooms.

Antioxidant Support

Loaded with fruits, vegetables, and special superfoods, Bulletproof Greens is also touted to offer antioxidant and anti-inflammatory support. In turn, this can lead to more energy and simply better overall health and wellness.

Vitamin A

Bulletproof Greens has vitamin A in the form of beta-carotene, which is a highly bioavailable form. Beta-carotene has a number of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. And it may benefit skin and eye health as well as immunity.

B Vitamins

There are also five B-complex vitamins in Bulletproof Greens. In general, the B vitamins support energy metabolism, enzyme and cellular function, and brain health.

Calcium

The main reason calcium (calcium citrate) is included in this formula is to reduce the negative effects of oxalates that are often found in high amounts in green vegetables. Some research has shown that calcium citrate can inhibit oxalate absorption, which could potentially increase nutrient absorption.

Vitamin K2

Vitamin K2 is a nutrient that many people are deficient in. Getting enough vitamin K2 is necessary for skin and bone health, brain function, and heart health. They used the form menaquinone-7, which is highly bioavailable.

Vitamin K2 is often found in a number of other high-quality greens supplements, such as Athletic Greens

Vegetables and Fruit Powder

A large part of the Bulletproof Greens formula is their Vegetables and Fruit Powder, which is a 2+ gram blend that consists of spinach, broccoli, kale, celery, cauliflower, cabbage, kelp, cucumber, lemons, limes, strawberries, and blueberries.

Also, many of these ingredients are organic (check the label to see which ones).

They always use organic varieties of the “Dirty Dozen” vegetables (vegetables that have a higher overall pesticide content in their non-organic forms).

So, what do we get from this blend?

A boatload of different nutrients. All of these fruits and vegetables are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals that support overall health and wellness.

Examples of certain nutrients found in these vegetables are fruits are vitamin K, vitamin C, beta-carotene, anthocyanins, resveratrol, and lutein, just to name a few.

Recommended Dosage: Anywhere from 1 to 8g

Superfood and Mushroom Complex

Up next is the Superfood and Mushroom Complex.

The superfoods included are spirulina, chlorella, green tea, acai berry, and acerola cherry.

And the two mushrooms in here are lion’s mane and cordyceps.

Superfoods

Spirulina and chlorella are two forms of algae that provide a host of different nutrients. They are rich in chlorophyll, antioxidants, vitamins (e.g., vitamin C, vitamin K), minerals (e.g., calcium, iron), and even protein and fatty acids.

Spirulina and chlorella have been shown to improve immune function; offer antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects; and benefit blood pressure, cholesterol, and metabolic health.

Recommended Dosage: 1 to 8 grams for each

Then we have acai berry and acerola cherry, which are rich in anthocyanins, polyphenols, and carotenoid antioxidants, not to mention various vitamins and minerals. These fruits may be beneficial for skin health, immune function, and overall wellness and vitality.

Recommended Dosage: N/A

Mushrooms

This blend also contains lion’s mane and cordyceps mushrooms. Both of these mushrooms are rich in polysaccharides and a number of secondary metabolites. They may benefit immune health, cognitive function, heart health, metabolism, and resistance to stress.

Recommended Dosage: 1,000 to 3,000mg for each (although more research is needed)

Nootropics

Now, let’s take a look at the two ingredients in Bulletproof Greens specified as nootropics: Citicoline and Panax Ginseng.

Citicoline

Citicoline breaks down into choline and cytidine, both of which may have cognitive-enhancing and neuroprotective effects. The choline in citicoline gets converted into acetylcholine, which is a neurotransmitter involved in many cognitive functions, such as focus, attention, and memory.

Recommended Dosage: 500 to 2,000mg

Panax Ginseng

Panax ginseng is an herb with many traditional uses. It’s most known for its ginsenoside content, and these bioactive components appear to offer benefits for cognitive function, neuroprotection, and stress reduction.

Recommended Dosage: 200 to 400mg

Digestive Aids

The final part of Bulletproof Greens is a number of digestive aids, including LactoSpore and BioCore Optimum Complete.

LactoSpore

LactoSpore is a trademarked form of Bacillus coagulans, which is a type of probiotic. LactoSpore has been proven to offer a number of potential benefits, such as improved digestion and reduced symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome and diarrhea. And it may even support brain health too.

It’s often included in gut-health-specific products too, such as Primal Harvest Probiotics

Recommended Dose: 6 Billion CFU

BioCore Optimum Complete

BioCore Optimum Complete is a trademarked form of numerous digestive enzymes, including protease, amylase, lipase, lactase, maltase, peptidase, and invertase.

Essentially, all of these enzymes work with your body to help digest various substances in your body.

For example, protease and peptidase help digest protein; amylase, invertase, and maltase help digest carbohydrates, polysaccharides, sugars, and similar substances; lactase helps digest lactose; and lipase helps to digest fats.

In general, research supports digestive enzymes for enhancing digestion and nutrient absorption and also limiting gastrointestinal (GI) side effects, such as bloating, diarrhea, and upset stomach.
