When it comes to popular supplements, whey takes the cake. Whey protein powders are among one of the most used supplements on the market. But with so many different brands, it’s tough to know which ones are worth the purchase.

Trulean Grass-Fed whey protein powder is among one of many whey supplements available. But does this whey protein stand out above the rest or is it just another overpriced product? Let’s find out in this Trulean Whey protein review.

Trulean is a health and wellness supplement company with a mission to make healthy choices simpler, more convenient, and more delicious. And it shows when you look at some of their products, such as their Wellness Shot and the supplement we’ll look at now – their grass-fed whey protein.

Grass-Fed Whey Protein

Like whole foods, grass-fed products are considered superior to traditional ones. This is often why it comes with a higher price tag.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, food products labeled “grass-fed” mean that the animal consumed grass and forage (such as hay) as its main food source throughout its entire lifespan as opposed to cattle-fed grain-based feed products. However, the term grass-fed is not strictly defined and does not mean these animals were not ever fed grain. Instead, it means they consumed grass as the main source of their diet.

Just like with humans, the diet of these animals can impact their health and the health of the meat and milk that comes from them. The biggest difference in nutrient composition from traditional to grass-fed products is the fatty acid content.

Grass-fed products typically contain less total fat and calories compared to traditional ones. Although grass-fed beef contains less monounsaturated fats overall compared to traditional fed products, both grass-fed beef and milk contain a significantly higher amount of omega-3 fatty acids and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) which are associated with a variety of health benefits.

Research studies have supported omega-3 fats with anti-inflammatory benefits that support brain and heart health and have the potential to decrease the risk of certain conditions. It’s also believed that grass-fed cow’s milk is creamier and contains better flavor than grain-fed cow’s milk.

Although grass-fed products appear to be superior, we also know that whey protein isolate does not contain high amounts of fat. So, how does this provide additional benefits when it comes to whey protein supplements?

Trulean Whey Protein is a whey isolate supplement. When it comes to whey protein, you can typically find either a whey protein concentrates or an isolate in most supplements. The biggest difference between these two is the protein-to-carb and fat ratio.

Whey protein concentrate contains roughly 80% protein and 20% carbs and fat. Whey protein isolate is processed a little further to provide a higher level of protein, closer to 90% with 10% coming from carbs and fat. Because of this, whey protein isolate tends to be more expensive however, studies have found that both provide the same benefits.

Whey protein isolate can be helpful for those trying to cut down on their carb and fat intake, such as during weight loss. There is strong evidence to suggest the benefits of consuming whey protein to help increase lean muscle mass and strength when combined with resistance training.

We also know from research that a high-protein diet can help with weight loss by providing a higher degree of satiety during meals and boosting energy expenditure. Other studies have found consuming whey protein may also help with reducing blood pressure and blood sugar levels.

Does Trulean Whey Protein Work?

Based on the ingredients and the subsequent research provided, it is safe to say that Trulean indeed has a leg to stand on. In fact, whey protein is one of the most studied supplements available.

Because this product contains a good source of high-quality whey protein isolate, likely those taking this supplement consistently along with practicing healthy lifestyle habits will notice a change in their health and/or body composition.

Based on their customer reviews, this protein powder has been described as one of the “best-tasting protein powders” on the market. Consumers also appear to be very impressed by the limited ingredient list and low total calorie intake.

How Does Trulean Whey Protein Compare?

When comparing Trulean Whey Protein to other products of its kind, such as Naked Nutrition’s Naked Whey their ingredient profile is very similar.

Trulean Whey Protein contains 90 calories per serving, 20 grams of protein, 1.5 grams of sugar (0 added sugars), and costs $59.99 for a 30-serving bag. Naked Nutrition’s grass-fed whey contains 150 calories per serving, 25 grams of protein, 5 grams of sugar (3 grams added sugars), and costs $23.99 for 12 servings. They both offer a 20% discount for subscribing to auto-deliveries.

Although Naked Nutrition contains more calories, it also provides 5 grams more protein. This product is made from a grass-fed whey protein concentrate, compared to Trulean which is made from an isolate. That explains the slight difference in calorie and sugar content. Both products cost the same at $1.99 per serving.

When looking at customer reviews, Trulean appears to have a leg up on its competition when it comes to the flavor and overall taste of its whey protein. That combined with the fact that it is an isolate and contains fewer calories and sugar compared to Naked Nutrition, it edges its way to the top. Although both are made with high-quality grass-fed whey, you get more bang for your buck with Trulean.

Who is Trulean Whey Protein Best For?

Trulean Whey Protein is likely best for someone active and looking to build muscle mass and/or lose weight. This is likely a great introductory supplement to those who have never tried whey protein powders before as it contains flavors that consumers rave about making it versatile and easy to incorporate into many liquids and baked goods.

Those who suffer from an allergy to cow’s milk should avoid taking whey protein supplements. Always speak to your doctor or healthcare provider before adding a supplement to your routine, especially if you are taking any medications for a chronic condition.

Claims vs. Reality

Trulean claims their grass-fed protein is the key player when it comes to weight loss and offers muscle growth and repair, along with a positive impact on blood sugar and insulin levels. All their claims are backed by substantial research giving this product two thumbs up.

It helps Trulean tremendously that they include a very limited ingredient profile in their grass-fed whey which reduces the concern of potential interactions of ingredients and effects of the supplement as a whole.

Is Trulean Whey Protein Safe?

Whey protein powder is considered safe for most healthy adults and is not associated with any adverse side effects. High doses of whey protein powder can cause nausea, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, reduced appetite, and headache. Whey protein should be avoided in those who suffer from an allergy to cow’s milk.
