Science In Sport, AKA SIS, is fueled by science to be the world’s leading performance nutrition brand, at least according to them. They’re trusted by athletes to deliver proven performance, which includes when it’s time to recover from a grueling effort, which is where SIS Rego Rapid Recovery comes in.
SIS Rego Rapid Recovery is a supplement powder from Science In Sport that is designed to provide exactly what it’s named to, rapid recovery. How, you ask? And does it really speed up and promote better recovery like it claims to? That’s what we’ll find out in this SIS Rego Rapid Recovery review.
Let’s see if this recovery powder is worth the purchase!
About SIS Rego Rapid Recovery
Whether you’re a gym rat, runner, cyclist, swimmer, field athlete, or anyone else who enjoys intense workouts, it’s likely you’re already aware of your post-workout need to recover. This means that along with rest, sleep, and active recovery, you need to get your muscles the proteins, glucose, vitamins, and minerals they need to rebuild and flush away toxins. You’re probably also aware that the best time to get recovery nutrition into your system is immediately after your workout, and preferably in liquid form for speedy uptake.
SIS Rego Rapid Recovery provides the macros your muscles need for refueling and repair once your workout is finished, and all in a refreshingly sweet beverage.
It includes 22-grams of high-quality carbs to compliment 20-grams of protein, and add to that a mix of vitamins and minerals to replace what you just sweated out, and you’re on your way to doing it all over again tomorrow.
SIS Rego Rapid Recovery Benefits
Supports Recovery
As we all know, the workout part is only the beginning, and once you’ve “torn it down,” it’s then time to rebuild it. This means giving your muscles and energy production what they need to return to full strength ASAP so that you can start the process all over again.
And the better and more quickly you recover, the faster you can add your next workout and gain more strength—all it takes is the right nutrition.
22g Carbs & 20g of Protein
High-energy workouts require cheap, fast-burning fuel, otherwise known as “blood sugar.” This powers fast-twitch muscles to contract quickly, and with power, though you’ll notice that the longer you’re in the gym or, the harder you hammer on your bike, the faster you lose steam and power. This is much like your car sputtering and wheezing toward the gas station as its fuel runs out.
For you, hitting the gas station means hitting the short and medium-chain carbs immediately after (or during) your workout, which has the added benefit of you being able to enjoy something sugary that’s guilt-free.
But along with more fuel, your muscles also need some building blocks so they can go to work repairing themselves, which is where protein comes in.
Altogether, SIS Rego Rapid Recovery provides 22g of simple and medium-chain carbohydrates to go to along with 20g of soy protein. No, we’re not too enthusiastic about soy protein, which has the reputation of being hard to digest. It does, however, keep the product vegetarian-friendly, which counts too. No, it isn’t vegan friendly, since SIS uses an animal-sourced vitamin D.
Still, we’d prefer seeing a different choice of protein, such as a whey protein option like that of Progenex Recovery.
Meant for Consumption Immediately After Exercise
The best time to hit the gas pump and build a supply store for your engine is right after running it hard. That’s not the only time you need it the most; consuming something sugary within a half-hour of a hard workout allows insulin—the hormone that determines whether energy is stored or used— a place to send sugars so that your system—and waistline—aren’t flooded with the sweet stuff.
Plus, immediately after exercise is when your muscles are grappling for building materials, which brings up the question of, what’s wrong with having it in your system during exercise, wouldn’t that be even better?
SIS Rego Rapid Recovery Ingredients
SIS Rego Rapid Recovery includes quite the extensive ingredient list. Below are the ingredient found within its formula:
Carbohydrate mix (46%) (Maltodextrin (from Maize), Fructose), Protein (46%) (Soy Protein Isolate), Electrolytes (3%) (Sodium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Calcium Lactate, Magnesium Oxide), Natural Flavourings, L-leucine, Emulsifier (Soy Lecithin), Thickener (Xanthan Gum), Colour (Beetroot Red), Vitamins & Minerals (Ascorbic Acid, Nicotinamide, Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate, Ferric Pyrophosphate, Zinc Sulphate, Calcium Pantothenate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin, Thiamin Mononitrate, Calcium Citrate, Folic Acid, Potassium Iodide, Biotin, Vitamin D3, Cyanocobalamin), Sweetener (Sucralose)
Okay, so let’s not go into too much detail over each ingredient here, since essentially what we have is a concoction of short to medium chain carbs mostly in the form of sugars, along with some vitamins, minerals, and a sharp dose of soy protein. For the chocolate flavor which they have listed on their website, it states “Natural Flavourings,” we can only assume it’s got some cocoa powder in there, though it’d be nice if they could say as much.
We were also curious about the other flavourings (that’s British for ‘flavors’), which include chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. Since there’s nothing about them on the site, we went so far as to chat with customer service about flavor ingredients, but she could only refer us back to the site. She finally gave us the email of the company’s top Favouring Scientist, and so far, a day later, and with a deadline looming, there’s been no response to our request for info. He’s probably busy creating new flavourings.
Does SIS Rego Rapid Recovery Work?
For the purpose, yes, Rego does indeed work. But you know what works just as well and doesn’t cost the arm-and-a-leg that Rego does? Chocolate milk. It delivers sugars, easily absorbable proteins, and even some replenishing fats to go along with some key vitamins and minerals to replenish and refuel you.
But we realize that not everyone can drink milk, and there are those who prefer a vegetarian option as well.
And for them, SIS Rego Rapid Recovery is a great option, along with a convenient way to get rid of some of that spare cash that keeps getting in your way. Stupid piles of money to trip over…
Who is SIS Rego Rapid Recovery Best For?
Anyone hitting it hard and heavy and anyone who needs to recover quickly can benefit from SIS Rego Rapid Recovery. This includes gym rats, endurance athletes, field athletes, and anyone else with disposable income. We’re guessing they have a marketing department with a taste for the finer things, since again, something as simple as chocolate milk works about as well, and you don’t need to be Elon Musk to afford it.
For those who are lactose intolerant or follow a vegan diet, consider an option with pea protein like Ghost Vegan Protein or a hemp protein powder—which is more absorbable than soy, but like soy, delivers all 9-essential amino acids. Mix it with coconut water, and you’ve got yourself a recovery drink that’s chock-full of replenishing electrolytes, coconut sugars, and vegan-friendly, absorbable protein, and all at a reasonable cost.
Claims vs. Reality
They claim SIS Rego Rapid Recovery will replenish your glycogen stores post-exercise, and it does. It also helps speed recovery, which they say it will, and…well, it’s a simple mixture of protein and sugars meant to replace energy and protein in your system. Seriously, there’s only so much to it, and it does what SIS says it will, so good enough.
Is SIS Rego Rapid Recovery Safe?
When used as directed—that is, within a half-hour after exercise—side effects should be minimal, if any. Yes, sugars can cause gastric distress, especially when fueling with them over the long run, though you should be fine slamming down the recommended amount right after your workout, which is when it won’t cause a glycemic response.
But if you consume this product as a meal replacement or afternoon snack, you’re not doing much better than soda pop for your system. Instead, be sure to only use it post-exercise, and to stay away from sugar the rest of the time. Nasty stuff, it is…though useful at the right times!
