“Superfood” is one of those words that gets used pretty loosely. Essentially, “superfoods” are any kind of food that has higher concentrations of beneficial nutrients than average. Superfoods are touted as the secret to health and longevity due to their supposedly beneficial blend of ingredients. There are many superfoods out on the market, such as Invigor8 and BoKU Superfood, so it can be hard to know which is right for you.
Purium Power Shake is a daily shake supplement made with tons of good super greens and healthy fats. Power Shakes are designed to give your body natural energy and balance your body’s alkalinity.
We cover a lot of supplement shakes on here so today we are going to take a look at Purium Power Shakes and answer the question: are they worth it? We will cover the pros, cons, cost, ingredients ist, and whether you should buy it or not.
Purium Power Shake: Overview
Purium Power Shake Terra is a legacy green drink designed to promote better overall health. Power Shakes include a blend of superfood greens and high-density fats to keep your supercharged throughout the day. Power Shakes are made without any added sugars and no artificial additives.
Power shakes claim, among other things, that they can:
- Improve Energy
- Reduce Cravings
- Fuel your cells
- Create a satisfied feeling
Each packet of Terra pouches is made from plant-based materials that are 100% compostable. Each serving is 35g, composed entirely of fats and super greens. Simply mix each packet with 10-20 oz. of your favorite dairy-free beverage and mix for 30 seconds. The manufacturer recommends drinking 1-4 shakes as needed throughout the day.
Purium is pretty vague on its claims. It basically says that it will help you feel good and healthy in general. It also claims that it can reduce your cravings and several customers report using it as a meal replacement shake. Currently, the only available flavor is apple berry
- Good ingredients
- High in nutrients
- Packed with healthy fats
- Serves as meal replacement shake
- MLM structure is frustrating to navigate
- No clinical studies
Who Makes Purium Power Shakes?
Power Shakes are made by Purium, which is licensed under the name Organic by Nature Inc. Purium was founded nearly 30 years ago by David Sandoval and Amy Venne-Hamdi. The company is based on 6 core values:
Purium operates out of a 40,00 square foot fully-automated manufacturing facility.
Purium is an MLM company which means its revenue stream is based on picking up new distributors to directly sell their products to customers. Unfortunately, the MLM structure usually means that only those near the top of the structure (which looks a lot like a pyramid…) actually see any real money. In fact, most people who join MLM companies actually lose money. Even if the company has a poor business structure it does not necessarily mean what they are selling is bogus, though.
We also checked out the company’s BBB page. They have an average A+ rating but the page is not accredited, despite being listed as being in business for 27 years. They have an average 4 of 5 rating from over 20 customer reviews and only 3 total complaints. We find this suspicious; after 27 years you’d think the company would have picked up more customer complaints. This may be because the company name is listed as Organic by Nature Inc. on BBB instead of as Purium.
How Does Purium Power Shake Work?
Purium Power Shakes work by giving your body a high dose of super greens and high-quality fats. The fats give you the energy to burn while the super green blend provides nutrients and keeps you full until the next mealtime.
Power Shakes only have a handful of reviews on the website, though most of them are positive. People praise the taste and say that they feel supercharged for the day after taking it in the morning.
Unfortunately, though, there are no clinical studies of trials linked to that show Purium is effective, and that is what we really want to see. Absent clinical trials, there is just really no guarantee that the product actually does what it says it does.
Purium Power Shake Ingredients
Power Shakes contain a lot of ingredients. Here are a few key ones:
- Rice bran: Rice bran regulates cholesterol levels and controls blood glucose. It contains B vitamins and folic acid among other things.
- Oats: Oats offer fiber for digestion and manganese for blood sugar response
- Carrot juice: carrot juice contains beta-carotene, minerals, and other important nutrients.
- Wheatgrass. Another common superfood ingredient, it can be found in other superfoods like Grown American Superfood and Amazing Grass Green Superfood. Wheatgrass might stimulate immune activity.
- Millet: Contains fiber and complex B vitamins and Vitamin A.
- Buckwheat: Buckwheat contains all kinds of good things like vitamins K, B1, B2, B3, magnesium, potassium, zinc, iron, and copper.
- Alfalfa juice: alfalfa juice contains proteins that might help hair and skin.
Most ingredients in Power Shake have some noted benefits and include some essential vitamins and minerals.
Safety and Side Effects
Purium Power Shakes have no noted side effects, however, we found some reviewers who talk about side effects. The most commons cited effects were:
- Upset stomach
These are all pretty common side effects of shake supplements. Usually, side effects like these go away as your body gets used to taking the supplement.
Where to Buy Purium Power Shake and Cost
You can buy Purium Power Shakes directly from Purium’s website. It does not seem to be available on other retail sites but you can also buy some directly from a Purium distributor. A 500g pouch of Power Shake costs $99 or $75 if you sign up for a subscription. Either way, we think this is really expensive.
Purium Power Shake: Worth It or Not?
It depends. Purium has some pretty good ingredients and seems to work mostly as intended. However, it is super expensive and you have to deal with the potentially frustrating MLM structure of the company. If you have some money to spare and you don’t mind going through a distributor or dealing with a weird shipment schedule, then we say trying it can’t hurt.
