About Actalin

Created by Dr. David Brownstein, Actalin is a blend of 17-herbal, mineral, vitamin, and glandular components meant to balance and restore the health of your thyroid gland. As you may know, this is important since your thyroid is associated with your immune health, energy metabolism, and adrenal health, and its poor function can lead to a host of health problems, including obesity, sluggishness, depression, and chronic disease such as diabetes.

But Actalin helps maintain your thyroid’s health naturally, and without any questionable ingredients.

Well, maybe there is at least 1-questionable ingredient, but we’ll get to that in a bit…

Actalin Benefits

Supports Thyroid Function

Your thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland in the back of your throat. It’s responsible for producing and coordinating chemicals that manage your metabolic and immune health. This includes the release of thyroid hormone, which controls nearly every aspect of your body’s growth, energy, and metabolism.

But a sluggish thyroid, or “hypothyroidism,” means you don’t have an adequate supply of thyroid hormone or other hormones your thyroid either produces or influences. This creates a ripple-effect of poor health throughout your body, and also leaves you feeling tired, depressed, and unfocused.

But by providing your thyroid the components it needs to function well, Actalin can help you feel better than you’ve felt in years—or keep you from feeling lousy in the first place.

Supports Adrenal Health

While it may not be a dedicated adrenal health supplement, such as Gaia Herbs Adrenal Health, Actalin can also provide adrenal health benefits. Your thyroid works closely with your pituitary and adrenals to form the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, which is responsible for the monitoring and release of stress hormones in your body. These include epinephrine, norepinephrine, and cortisol, the latter of which builds in your body when you experience continuous stress to the point it leads to weight gain, poor mental function, low energy, and depression.

But by supporting your adrenals in a natural and healthy manner, the effects of chronic stress and cortisol influx can be reversed so that you are not only less subject to poor health, but you feel mentally sharper, calmer, happier, and better focused.

Supports Energy Metabolism

Whether directly through the hormones it produces or indirectly through the hormones and actions it influences, your thyroid is responsible for your body’s metabolism of energy. It has the power to control it for the good or bad, and affects your body’s ability to either use or store the energy it takes in.

Of course, this means that your thyroid’s health makes a difference in whether you’re lean and ready to go or overweight and struggling to get out of bed. No, the latter condition isn’t necessarily your fault, though it can be reversed by giving your thyroid the nutritional components it needs to function well, which in turn helps you return to a lean, energetic, and healthy state.

Supports Immune Health

Your HPA with your thyroid at its helm is like your immune system’s master switch. When it’s off, you’re off, and it shows through poor health and an inability to ward off infection.

But by reducing the inflammation that’s responsible for depleting your immune health and bolstering the function of your thyroid and entire HPA, you reduce your risk for inflammatory disease, septic infection, and illness.

Actalin Ingredients

Medix Select Actalin uses quite a few ingredients within its formula, including 540 mg of a proprietary blend. We will take a closer look at each ingredient below.

Medix Select Actalin Supplement Facts

Vitamin A (750 mcg), Vitamin D (7.5 mcg) & Vitamin E (67 mg)

Not only are oil-soluble vitamins essential to the production of some thyroid hormones, but they’re also potent antioxidants that can relieve the effects of oxidative stress on your body. Since one effect of oxidative stress is inhibiting a balanced supply of stress hormones, androgens, and female hormones, shoring up your blood levels of vitamins A, D, & E helps rebalance them so that your metabolism, brain function, and general health are all performing at their peak.

Riboflavin (5mg) & Niacin (30 mg)

Riboflavin, or vitamin B2, is a water-soluble vitamin that plays an essential role in energy production, and it also helps your body break down fats, drugs, and steroid hormones.

Niacin, or vitamin B3, is also an essential water-soluble vitamin with strong ties to energy production since it helps your body break down and assimilate fats, proteins, and carbohydrates.

Both also play other critical roles in your body, including the promotion of cellular communications, expression of DNA, and acting as potent antioxidants to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress.

Iodine 30 mg

Iodine is a mineral that controls your thyroid’s function, which makes it a rather important addition to this formula, and its deficiency has been directly linked to the development of goiters, or swollen thyroid. Iodine deficiency during pregnancy can also lead to intellectual disabilities, stunted growth, and problems with movement, speech, and hearing in children.

A lack of it can also cause miscarriage and is linked to several diseases, including fibrocystic breast disease in women, so again, getting enough of it is rather important.

Magnesium (15 mg), Zinc (5 mg), Selenium (30 mcg), Copper (0.1 mg), & Manganese (2 mg)

Along with oil and water-soluble vitamins, minerals also play an important role in energy metabolism, relief of oxidative stress, and your thyroid’s health.

For instance, selenium is essential in the metabolism of thyroid hormone, and it also helps prevent thyroid disease. Zinc deficiency is also associated with hypothyroidism, as are copper and selenium. Manganese helps regulate certain enzymes that directly affect thyroid hormones, and minerals are also essential in maintaining strong communications between cells.

Guggul Gum Resin Extract (Propriety Blend)

Also known as Boswellia, guggul is a plant that has long been used in Ayurvedic medicine for the treatment of obesity and various other conditions caused by inflammation.

It also improves iodine uptake in the thyroid and improves the activity of enzymes necessary for the metabolism of thyroid hormones.

Ashwagandha Root Extract (Propriety Blend)

Ashwagandha is an herb known as an “adaptogen” due to its ability to help your body adapt to and manage stress. It (likely) does this by helping keep stress hormones in a healthy balance, and while more research needs to be done to understand why, it’s also shown to have positive effects on increasing levels of thyroid hormone while decreasing levels of cortisol.

This helps you feel calmer and less affected by stress along with helping you think clearly, more easily manage your weight, and providing a positive sense of wellbeing.

Forskohlii Root Extract (Propriety Blend)

Forskolin is a tropical plant in the mint family that has been proven to help increase the production of T4 and T3 thyroid hormones. This is why it’s often used as a weight-loss supplement, since this increases your body’s metabolism of fat at the cellular level.

Adrenal Glandular (Bovine) Powder (Propriety Blend)

Okay, so while we’re good with essential vitamins, minerals, and plant compounds in our supplements, our comfort level takes a sharp turn south when we’re talking about things like cow hormones.

In fact, not only do we get leery over the idea of harvesting glands from slaughterhouses to be used to “improve” our health, the FDA doesn’t regulate glandular supplements, so you don’t always know what you’re getting. This, in addition to the multiple warnings and bans they’ve put on various forms of them.

But there is evidence that bovine hormones do work, though it’s recommended that they only be used for short periods to recover from acute hypothyroidism, and not continuously after.

Does Actalin Work?

If you’re feeling the unpleasant and potentially dangerous effects of a sluggish, underperforming thyroid, Actalin may be able to help. This includes helping reverse symptoms of chronic stress, which is something that affects many of us due to our busy modern lifestyles.

But while ingredients in it, such as ashwagandha, have shown efficacy in improving thyroid health, it’s still not a magic pill. By this, we mean it works well when combined with your efforts to reduce stress, get enough sleep, and eat right. Skipping this part and only relying on supplements may have a band-aide effect which, while it will help somewhat, isn’t a healthy or long-term solution.

Medix Select Actalin Supplement for thyroid

Who Is Actalin Best For?

Actalin is best for those over age 18 who are feeling the effects of an under—or overactive thyroid gland. It also needs to accompany an active, healthy lifestyle and whole food diet along with plenty of sleep and stress relief.

Plus, since weight gain is commonly associated with poor adrenal health, Actalin may help you feel better just by looking in the mirror!

But those under age 18 should absolutely avoid the use of outside hormones such as from bovine glands, and anyone who is sensitive or allergic to any of Actalin’s ingredients should (obviously) not use this product.

It also may be best for those with acute symptoms who are willing to discontinue its use in the long-term, which is something we DO NOT recommend.

Claims vs. Reality

When taken along with efforts to reduce stress, get enough exercise, and eat a healthy diet, Actalin can successfully restore the healthy function of your thyroid.

But if you skip the aforementioned steps and merely expect pills to “do their thing,” you’re not getting the full benefits of this product.

That, and as previously mentioned, gnawing on cow glands leaves us with concerns about its long-term use, and that’s before we mention the fact that you don’t know exactly what you’re getting from the non-regulated world of bovine hormones.

Is Actalin Safe?

Though mostly the only side effects you’re likely to experience with this product are positive, there are concerns over its long-term use. Some have also reported gastric upset and headache from the product, though only a few.

Even so, there is good reason to perform further research in determining your comfort level in consuming unregulated cow glands before committing to the long-term use of this product.

But Medix Select does offer a 100% money-back guarantee, and as long as you return it within 30-days, there’s little or no risk for you.

Where To Buy Actalin

Actalin sells for a fairly reasonable $39.95 for a month’s supply, and you can save as much as 33% when you order more than 1-unit. There’s also a 10% savings available when you commit to regular shipments, so there are clearly savings to be had.

Along with Medix Select’s own site, the product is available on Amazon and numerous independent affiliate sites.
