If you’re an exercise enthusiast, you’ve likely been searching around for the perfect supplement to give you that extra boost. With so many pre-workouts available, finding the right one can be difficult. 

At the end of the day, what you need is something that will increase your focus, provide energy, and keep you motivated throughout your workout. Although many companies claim this in their product, a majority of them will fall short of expectations.

What Is Total War Pre-Workout?

When it comes to pre-workout, you want something that’s going to get you pumped up for an intense workout. What better way to captivate that feeling than with a supplement called Total War? This supplement is made and produced by Redcon1, a popular company that has produced a variety of products, including Redcon1 Big Noise, Redcon1 MRE, Redcon1 Isotope, Redcon1 MOAB, Redcon1 Boom Stick, and many more.

Total War has been a popular pre-workout for several years now and comes with plenty of accolades. Not only was Redcon1 named the 2019 Vitamin Shoppe Brand of the Year, but Redcon1 Total War was also named the Best Pre-Workout of 2018 by Nutrition Warehouse. 

Total War claims to do three things for your workout, which include giving you unstoppable power, laser-like focus, and extreme energy. Made by Redcon1 (the same makers as Halo, MRE, and Double Tap), Total war Pre-Workout is designed to turn your 30-minute workouts into workouts that end when you can’t lift anymore.

When you’re looking at pre-workout supplements, the nutrition label will be the most important factor in your decision. If the label doesn’t include the right ingredients — or the right amount of each ingredient — it simply won’t live up to its claims. 

Let’s take a look at what you’ll find inside each serving of Total War Pre-Workout.

The formula itself is straightforward, and all dosages are listed (which is always preferred over proprietary blends). Let’s take a look at each of the ingredients in Total War to see the benefits.

Citrulline Malate

Citrulline is an amino acid that will transform into arginine in the kidneys when supplemented. When citrulline is attached to malate, it creates citrulline malate. It’s possible that it can reduce the amount of lactic acid in the body, help produce nitric oxide, help prolong energy, and improve endurance. More research is needed to connect the effects of citrulline to citrulline malate, but things are looking good for this supplement.

  • Recommended Dose: 6,000mg-8,000mg before workout

Agmatine Sulfate

Agmatine is produced from arginine, an amino acid that changes into nitric oxide. It can help you get a better pump, increase your performance, reduce pain, reduce depression, and even help control blood glucose and insulin levels. More research is needed, but it’s becoming more popular in the fitness world. 

  • Recommended Dose: 1,000mg-2,000mg before workout

Beta-Alanine

This ingredient is a popular one amongst pre-workouts; you can find it in Cardio Cuts 4.0 and many other options. Although it is an amino acid, beta-alanine is non-essential and won’t help synthesize proteins like most amino acids. It will produce carnosine when combined with histidine, which will help reduce the amount of lactic acid buildup during a workout. It’ll be stored in your skeletal muscles. 

  • Recommended Dose: 2,000mg-5,000mg before workout

Taurine

Known to some as the “wonder molecule,” Taurine is an amino acid often found in energy drinks and pre-workout supplements. Safe for humans, our bodies will actually produce it on their own. It can help maintain hydration, improve digestion, regulate minerals in the body, support the central nervous system, and improve your immune system. 

  • Recommended Dose: 500mg-2,000mg before workout

Caffeine Anhydrous

Caffeine anhydrous is a dehydrated form of caffeine that is known for being much more concentrated. While this will give you more bang for your buck when it comes to increasing energy levels, it can be much more dangerous if not consumed safely. Outside of that, expect the same old caffeine we all love.

Juniper Extract

Extracted from the Juniper tree, the juniper berry is known to be packed with nutrients and has anti-inflammatory properties. It is also effective at defeating bacteria and viruses. In a pre workout supplement, it will typically be used to help improve your overall health.

Di-Caffeine Malate

This form of caffeine is fused with malic acid, which helps prolong the effects of caffeine. It’ll also help the digestive stress we often experience with caffeine. Research is still limited, but it has been receiving a lot of attention in pre workout supplements to give a sustained release of energy.

Green Tea Extract

If you’re a tea lover, then you’ve heard of green tea before. For those that haven’t, it’s one of the most popular teas in the world and comes with a variety of benefits. Not only is it rich in antioxidants, but it promotes a healthy brain, improved exercise performance, healthy heart, and better recovery after a workout. 

  • Recommended Dose: 100-300mg per day

Naringin

Naringin is a bioflavonoid most commonly found in grapefruit and is a large reason for its bitter taste. It is known to help improve overall health, is an antioxidant, anti-carcinogenic, and helps lower cholesterol.

BioPerine

BioPerine is the active ingredient in black pepper and is known to have a variety of health benefits including the absorption of nutrients, improved metabolism, an increase in dopamine and serotonin, better memory, enhanced immune system, and a more focused mental state.

Theobroma Cacao Extract

Theobroma cacao is another name for the cacao tree. When extracted, it can help relieve depression and stress, improve blood pressure, and enhance heart health.

Overall, Redcon1 Total War pre-workout contains well-researched ingredients in the proper doses. This is refreshing when you compare the product to under-dosed pre-workouts or pre-workouts that hide behind proprietary blends.

Keep in mind that Total War contains about 320mg of caffeine per serving, which is definitely on the high-end. Those sensitive to caffeine may want to start with a half scoop before gradually working up to a full serving.

Claims vs. Reality

Total War Pre Workout made three main claims with their product — laser-like focus, heightened energy levels, and unstoppable power. After taking a close look at the ingredients, it’s very clear that they checked off each one of those boxes. 

They include a bunch of caffeine — though you should be careful with it — and various amino acids that help aid you during a workout. When combined with a healthy diet, Total War can truly help you get the most out of your exercises. 

Verdict: Total War Pre Workout Review

We like this product. It contains a wide variety of essential and non-essential nutrients for the body that will not only help you get pumped for your workout but will also keep you pumped for much longer than usual. 

Total War Pre Workout has a large amount of raving reviews from customers that have tried their product. Outside of the concentrated caffeine (which is manageable), there isn’t a lot to worry about and can be taken safely. 

If you go into your workouts like it’s a total war, then this product will help you match that energy with improved performance and recovery.
