Nutrafol Review – Does This Hair Growth Product Work?

Did you know that about 35 million men and 21 million women nationwide suffer from hair loss? It’s true, by the age of 35 about 2 in 3 men will experience hair loss and by age 45 nearly 2 in 5 women will experience hair loss. In a culture that puts a high premium on longevity and youthful appearance, losing your hair can severely affect your confidence and quality of life.

That is why there exist several hair growth treatments meant to both stop the early loss of hair and stimulate new hair growth and protection. A lot of these supplements make all kinds of wild claims but only a few actually stand up to the test of evidence.

That’s why we are going to talk about Nutrafol, an extremely popular hair growth supplement. Nutrafol claims that it can help you grow thicker healthier hair through its proprietary blend of biotin, keratin, ashwagandha, and vitamin E. Nutrafol has some advantages over other hair products, not least of which it is designed by a licensed dermatologist.

Today we are going to talk about Nutrafol and cover its pros, cons, where to buy, how much it costs, and most importantly, whether or not it’s worth the purchase.

Nutrafol Hair Growth Capsule

Overview: Nutrafol

Nutrafol Hair Growth Products

Nutrafol is a hair growth supplement designed to address thinning hair and make existing hair stronger and thicker. Nutrafol comes in a convenient pill form and is to be taken 2-4 times a day. The biotin and keratin are meant to stimulate the production of new hair while the ashwagandha, biocercumin, and palm oil extract. Nutrafol is primarily marketed towards women but the company has several versions of their products designed specifically for men.

Each bottle of Nutrafol comes with 120 capsules so at 4 pills a day that comes out to just about a month’s supply. Although it is designed for men and women experiencing early-onset hair loss, anyone can take Nutrafol, even those who just want thicker hair. It takes about 3-4 months of usage before you start to see results and about 6 months before you notice your hair shedding less.

A quick note though: Nutrafol is not designed to treat hair loss arising from some underlying condition, disease, illness, or as a side effect from some medication (e.g. cancer treatments). It is also not recommended for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. or those who have blood clotting issues.

Who Make Nutrafol?

Nutrafol Hair Growth Products Founder- Giorgos Tsetis, Roland Peralta, and Dr. Sophia Kogan

Nutrafol was founded by entrepreneur-trio of Giorgos Tsetis, Roland Peralta, and Dr. Sophia Kogan. The trio was inspired to found Nutrafol after their own experiences with hair loss and using nutraceuticals to manage hair loss. Nutrafol also employs a team of “naturopathic” physicians and board-certified physicians who are all trained in hair loss regrowth and hair treatments.

So more on the term “naturopathic.” Naturopathic physicians traffic in all kinds of quasi-medical and pseudoscientific treatments and explanations. They are legally allowed to call themselves “doctors” but naturopathy is usually viewed with skepticism by practitioners of evidence-based medicine. Naturopathic “physicians” do learn a lot of the same basic medical knowledge as those in traditional medical schools but include pseudoscientific treatments like homeopathy and folk remedies. Naturopaths also do not complete residencies and do not have strict licensure requirements like MDs and physicians do.

The inclusion of naturopaths in Nutrafol’s team of scientists makes us hesitant. At the very least, their scientific advisor board does seem to be made of experts who are properly licensed and credentialed. None of this is to say that Nutrafol is bogus, only that you should be a bit skeptical of their so-called “experts” credentials.

That being said, Nutrafol has a lot of positive reviews from users vouching for its efficacy. Many users claim that regular use so stronger, longer, and thicker hair.

How Does Nutrafol Work?

Nutrafol Hair Growth Result

Nutrafol works in two major ways: it stimulates the growth of new hair and thickens and strengthens existing hair. Nutrafol works by rebalancing stress hormones, combating inflammation, and neutralizing free radicals that contribute to hair loss. The combination of biotin and keratin serves as the raw materials for creating new hair while ingredients like ashwagandha and palm oil address the underlying causes of hair loss such as hormone imbalance, stress, oxidation, toxins, and UV exposure.

Nutrafol says that their products have been clinically tested for efficacy but we were unable to find links to these studies.

Ingredients in Nutrafol

Nutrafol Hair Growth Product

Nutrafol has all kinds of ingredients and we don’t have the space to cover them all here. Here are some of the major ingredients in Nutrafol:

  • Biotin: A vitamin that helps the breakdown of fatty acids and helps hair keep its strength and flexibility.
  • Ashwagandha: Lowers the amount of cortisol, the stress hormone, which contributes to hair loss.
  • Keratin: Keratin is the main structural protein of your hair.
  • Cayenne pepper extract: Cayenne pepper reduces the negative effects of stress and helps produce proteins.
  • Reservatal: Absorbs free radicals that cause oxidative stress and hair loss

Safety and Side Effects

Each ingredient in Nutrafol is safe and not known to be associated with serious side effects. The only mention of side effects we could find were those who complain that the product made their hair too shiny and oily. A handful of reviewers claim the product did not work at all, but there was the minority.

Where to Buy and Cost

Nutrafol Hair Growth Website

You can buy Nutrafol directly from the company website or from third party online retailers like Amazon. A 30-day supply (120 capsules) costs $88.00 (a bit expensive, in our opinion)

Nutrafol: Worth It or Not?

We would say Nutrafol is at least worth trying. Despite the high price, it seems to work pretty well and has a dedicated following. We have some reservations about their advertised team of “naturopathic” physicians, but at the very least their scientific advisory board seems to check out. The high price might be a deal-breaker for some.
