Kate Mara grew up in a suburb of New York City. Her acting career began at age 9 with a school musical, and she appeared in several school and community theater plays. Mara graduated a year early from high school and was accepted at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts but deferred to pursue her acting dream. In 1997, she appeared on Law & Order. In 2003, Mara landed recurring roles on Nip/Tuck and Everwood, but she is probably best known for playing in House of Cards. Film credits include Brokeback Mountain, The Martian, and Fantastic Four. Mara married Fantastic Four co-star Jamie Bell in 2017 and they have 1 daughter together. Her younger sister Rooney Mara is also an actress. Mara is an ambassador for the Humane Society. She has hundreds of thousands of followers on social media. Mara is 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs about 115 lbs.

Mara switched to a vegan diet at age 30 and and credits it for her health, energy, and ripped physique. Her inspiration was the book The Beauty Detox Solution by Kimberly Snyder. She says she doesn’t miss meat, although giving up cheese was tough. She starts her day with a green smoothie and that sets the tone for healthy eating all day long. While she’s not a cook, she still fills up on natural, whole foods and takes a pass on the junk. Besides her health smoothies, she stays hydrated with plenty of water.

Mara says it’s important to her to start her day with a green smoothie. If she does, she keeps up the healthy eating. Without it, she can go off the rails.

Mara says her favorite place to work out is Ballet Bodies. Her trainer Romi is a ballerina.
Mara doesn’t have any particular routine she does. She likes to do something new every time she works out.
When Mara is at home in LA, she hits the ballet and Pilates studio 5 days a week.
Mara will do ballet one day and Pilates the next. She considers this form of ‘me time’ to be supremely important.
Mara loves the focus ballet requires because it helps clear her mind. She says it’s as good as a massage.
