Keanu Reeves was born in Beirut, Lebanon. His father abandoned the family when he was just 2 and Reeves and his mother moved to Australia and New York City before settling in Toronto, Canada. His mother remarried and her second husband, Paul Aaron, was a Broadway and Hollywood director. Reeves began acting on stage when he was 9 years old and by 15, he was a production assistant for his step-dad. Reeves played ice hockey as goalie and had dreams of going pro, but decided to stick with acting instead. He moved to LA when he was 20 and found small roles on tv, film and stage for the next several years, earning praise for his acting. Reeves’ breakthrough came with Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure followed closely by My Own Private Idaho, then he rocketed to stardom with The Matrix in 1999. He received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2005 and is one of Hollywood’s highest paid actors. Reeves co-owns a production company called Company Films with friend Stephen Hamel, and he co-founded a custom motorcycle company called Arch. He has also co-written 2 books. Reeves has hundreds of thousands of followers on social media. He is 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weighs about 185 lbs.

Start Early

To prepare for John Wick 3, Reeves began training 4 months before shooting began.

Martial Arts Master

Reeves starred and directed Man of Tai Chi, but he had been working on his skills for the past couple of decades with adepts such as the Machado brothers and professional stuntmen.

Tactical Training

To get in shape for John Wick 3, Reeves also had to undergo munitions and firearms training, becoming a virtual pro at handling weaponry.

What’s In a Name?

‘Keanu’ means ‘cool breeze over the mountains’ in Hawaiian. His early life was sort of like being blown around by the wind. His father left the family when Reeves was just 2 and his mother remarried and moved several times, often leaving the kids in the care of grandparents and nannies.

When he was at his peak of stardom, Reeves played bass guitar in an alt rock band called Dogstar. He also played in the band Becky for a year.
