Gwyneth Paltrow’s Diet

Summary

Paltrow strives to eat clean: fresh, organic produce and animal protein are her mainstays, but she admits to having a weakness for refined carbs. Her website has been under fire for promoting more than one oddball detox diet, including the gallbladder flush and a goat’s milk cleanse, but she says that while she used to do a lot of these cleanses, she’s no longer a fan and now takes a more relaxed approached to eating. She’ll be strict at breakfast and lunch, and have whatever she’s in the mood for at dinner. For her annual cleanse (the only one she says she does these days), she eliminates just about everything except fresh fruit and vegetables.

Paltrow On Her Clean Eating Diet

[I eat] good proteins and lots of vegetables and not too much grain or sugar, and nothing baked.

{

Paltrow On When She Falls Off The Wagon

But at the same time, you want deliciousness, you want a fun life—pleasure!

{

Paltrow On Detox Diets

I’m basically never cleansing. Only if I’m guinea pigging something for the website. Or, I try to do one good cleanse a year.

{

Paltrow On Toxins

I believe the combination of toxic load, the modern environment and nutritional deficiency makes our bodies more vulnerable to breaking down.

{

Paltrow On Refined Food

I really love white carbs, which is not great for optimizing your health and your energy.

{

Paltrow On Processed Cheese

I’d rather smoke crack than eat cheese from a tin.

Paltrow On Exercise

It’s worth it to me to do that extra exercise so I can eat what I want and not think about it.

Paltrow On Maintaining One’s Figure After 35

You either starve yourself or you eat and you do serious cardio. But there’s no free ride.

{

Paltrow On Cryotherapy

I haven’t tried cryotherapy yet because I’m kind of scared to, but they say it’s great for pain. Our diets are so full of inflammatory foods that I think we need to do increasingly extreme things to combat it.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s Lifestyle

Clean Sleeping

Paltrow coined the term meaning a healthy amount of sleep. She herself gets at least 7-8 hours, and ideally 10.

Multi-Lingual

Paltrow spent some time in Spain as a teenager and also a summer in Paris, and she speaks Spanish and French quite well.

Deep Research for Shallow

Paltrow wore a fat suit out to a bar as part of her research for the role of playing an obese woman in the film Shallow Hal. She said people refused to make eye contact and were rude to her, and that she was saddened by the injustice toward overweight people.

No Ex-Spence Spared

For high school, Paltrow attended Spence, an exclusive all-girls school in New York City.

Hard Knocks

Paltrow suffered from postpartum depression following the birth of her second child, Moses. She also nearly died due to the miscarriage of her third child.

Grandiose Gift Guide

Paltrow has some pretty wild ideas on her Goop website, including 18 karat gold dumbbells (price tag: $125K), a recipe for ‘spirit truffles’ (that nourish harmony and ESP), and a $90,000 trip to outer space.

{

Paltrow On Sleep

Sleep plays such a powerful role in determining your appetite and energy levels that I believe it should be your first priority—even before you think about your diet.

{

Paltrow On Beauty

Beauty, to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin. That, or a kick-ass red lipstick.

{

Paltrow On Life

I realized life is so short and precious, you should do things that make you feel inspired, that push you and teach you something. I’d rather not have a big house, a huge closet of clothes, diamonds and a private plane, and instead a body of work that I’m proud of.

{

Paltrow On Guinea-Pigging

At Goop, they call me “GP the guinea pig” because I’ll try anything.

{

Paltrow On Simplicity

The simpler things are, the happier they are.

{

Paltrow On Marriage

I try to remember as I hear about friends getting engaged, that it’s not about the ring and it’s not about the wedding. It’s a grave thing, getting married. And it’s easy to get swept up in the wrong things.
