Battle Bars Review – Are These Protein Bars Any Good?

Protein is an absolutely essential part of the human diet. Protein, along with fats and carbohydrates, is one of the 3 essential macronutrients needed to survive. Proteins assist in the construction and maintenance of bodily structures and protein helps build muscle mass and promote good brain functioning.

Battle Bars are a protein bar meant to give an easy and tasty source of protein and energy. Battle Bars are made from all kinds of high protein ingredients that are designed to actually be tasty, something a lot of protein bars really miss the mark. The best protein bars need to have the right amount of protein and fiber to meet your goals.

Protein bars are one of those things that get a pass from skeptical eyes . After all, we know for sure that protein is necessary so how could protein bars not be effective? That being said, protein bars can serve as a way to build muscle after a workout or just as a tasty snack.

We are going to cover Battle Bars and talk about the pros, cons, ingredients, who makes them, how they taste, and whether or not you should buy some.

Battle Bars Protein Bar Set of Four

Overview: Battle Bars

Battle Bars Protein Bar Chocolate and peanut butter combo

A lot of protein supplements or products have one major flaw: they taste pretty gnarly. Protein in itself does not taste like anything and many companies fail the taste test and make something that is either flavorless or tastes like you are eating chalk.

That’s why we like how Battle Bars are committed to making something that actually tastes good and that can give you that extra energy you need whether in the gym or just in your daily life. Battle bars have a number of different protein bar products but the most popular ones are probably the FBR S’mores flavor, The Blue Falcon, the K-Bar and the ominously named Mother of All Bars (a funny play on MOAB, if you weren’t paying attention).

Each Battle Bar contains nearly 20 grams of whey protein and up to 6 grams of branched-chain amino acids. Each bar also contains about 60mg of caffeine, some added fiber, and an authentic marshmallow and graham cracker taste. You can kind of think of Battle Bars and a hyped-up rice Krispy treat with more protein and different flavors.

Battle Bars claims that they can increase your physical performance and lessen fatigue after working out. All Battle Bar products are non-GMO and they donate a portion of the proceeds from sales to programs that help rehabilitate wounded veterans and first-responders.

Advantages

  • Each bar contains about 20 grams of protein
  • Branch-chain amino acids (BCAAs)
  • Taste really good, even for a protein bar
  • Increase energy and reduce fatigue

Disadvantages

  • They can melt in the heat
  • Do not last very long; spoils quickly
  • Heavy and filling, not necessarily a negative depending on the circumstance

Who Makes Battle Bars?

Battle Bars Official Logo

Battle Bars are made by Battle Bars, a Florida-based protein snack company. Battle Bars stated mission is to “create a product catered to those who accept nothing less than victory, whether it be on the battlefield, in the gym, or in their daily lives.” Their marketing is pretty typical for a high-octane protein bar company with lots of references to living extreme and winning, so at the very least the company knows who they are selling these too.

On their website, Battle Bars offers several articles and podcasts covering fitness topics and interviews from professionals in the military. Battle Bars is also a supporter of Operation Enduring Warrior, a non-profit program dedicated to helping wounded veterans and first-responders physically and mentally rehabilitate. They donate a portion of the profits to this program and its nice to see a company giving back to those who sacrifice a lot to keep us safe.

How Do Batlle Bars Work?

Battle Bars Inside Product

Like any protein bar, Battle Bars work by giving your body a large dose of protein, amino acids, fiber, and a bit of caffeine. In that sense, it’s kind of like a tiny meal in a package as one bar could be used as a meal replacement.

To be completely honest, Battle Bars ingredients are nothing special and are common in pretty much every protein bar. The one place where Battle Bars shine though is the taste. These protein bars taste really good. Not even “really good for a protein bar” but seriously good. We especially like the newer Falcon Blue flavor which has hints of blueberry, but our favorite is definitely the S’mores flavored bar. One of the worst things about protein bars is choking them down so it’s great they managed to make something that tastes really good while also being effective.

The whey protein in each Battle Bar is meant to keep energy levels high, promote muscle growth, and reduce fatigue levels after working out. The BCAAs are also known to improve muscle growth and are important amino acids that the body cannot naturally synthesize. Battle Bars is a bit different as they add some caffeine to the mixture. Not a lot mind you, but enough to give that extra burst of energy you might need to get through the day.

Safety and Side Effects

Battle Bars Peanut Butter Bar

Battle Bars have no known side effects, other than those common to protein bars. If you eat too much, you may find yourself feeling a bit bloated from the fiber content but as long as you don’t overeat, you should feel just fine. In very rare cases, too much protein can be dangerous, but it is unlikely you’d be able to consume dangerous levels of protein from Battle Bars, even if you te 12 a day.

Where to Buy Battle Bars

BattleBars Protein Bar Official Website

You can currently buy Battle Bars on the company website. It does not seem to be available on Amazon or any physical retailers. A standard 12-pack of Battle Bars costs $32.99, which is a bit expensive for just some protein bars.

Battle Bars: Worth It?

For sure, Battle Bars are worth it. They are a bit more expensive than the typical protein bar, but they have a lot of good ingredients, a nice jolt of caffeine, and most importantly, they taste really good.
