MRE Lite Review

So many protein powders out there today seem to all be the same general formula, mainly with whey protein isolate or concentrate.

But one protein supplement called MRE Lite is designed to be much different from whey protein, while still providing you with all the protein and amino acids you need to recover from your workouts and support optimal muscle health.

Continue reading this MRE Lite review to see what’s exactly in this supplement, the possible benefits, and who should use it.

About MRE Lite

MRE Lite is a whole food protein powder created by Redcon1, a popular supplement company that has produced a variety of other products.

Other Redcon1 Reviews:

redcon1 supplements and products

MRE Lite was designed as a lower-calorie alternative to their original MRE formula, which is essentially a meal replacement shake.

Redcon1 MRE Lite contains only 120 to 130 calories per serving, and contains 24g of protein, only 4g of carbs, and just 2g of fat.

Also, MRE Lite is very different from most protein powders due to their unique blend of whole food protein sources, including chicken, beef, salmon, egg, brown rice, and pea protein. This combination is designed to give your body all the essential amino acids it needs for optimal muscle growth and recovery, while offering enhanced bioavailability due to the more natural sources.

And it’s all done without whey protein, which may eliminate bloating or other common problems caused by whey in some people.

Not to mention it comes in 9 different flavors, such as Banana Nut Bread and Oatmeal Chocolate Chip, for a delicious experience (so they say, anyway!)

MRE Lite Benefits

Redcon1 MRE Lite is advertised to offer the following benefits:

  • Enhanced Muscle Growth
  • Muscle Recovery Support
  • Easier Digestion

Enhanced Muscle Growth

With 24g of protein per serving from whole food sources, MRE Lite claims to give your body all the amino acids it needs to boost muscle protein synthesis and enhance muscle growth (when combined with training of course!).

Muscle Recovery Support

MRE Lite is also advertised to boost muscle recovery.

The blend of chicken, beef, salmon, pea, and other whole food protein sources are also designed to enhance muscle recovery, so you can stay consistent with your workouts without letting soreness or lack of recovery get in the way.

Easier Digestion

Common proteins such as whey protein cause bloating or gas for some people. But MRE Lite is free of whey protein and uses only whole food protein sources, which they say are easier to digest and utilize by the body.

All in all, MRE Lite is designed to be an effective, superior protein powder.

But does it actually work?

MRE Lite Ingredients

MRE Lite contains several different ingredients. The main star is their Whole Food Protein Blend, but there are other ingredients too.

Let’s take a look.

  • Whole Food Protein Blend
    • Beef Protein
    • Salmon Protein
    • Chicken Protein
    • Egg Albumin
    • Rice Protein
    • Pea Protein
  • Whole Milk Powder
  • Medium Chain Triglycerides
MRE Lite Supplement Facts

Whole Food Protein Blend

The Whole Food Protein Blend contains protein sources from beef, salmon, chicken, eggs, rice, and peas. All in all, you get 24g of protein per serving which is in a reasonable range to support muscle growth and recovery.

By including several sources of protein, this blend also gives you many different amino acids, including the essential amino acids and BCAAs that are most important for protein synthesis.

Whole Milk Powder

Whole milk powder is used in this supplement mainly for texture. However, it’s worth noting that it contains some whey, which goes against their claim that it’s free from whey protein.

It’s not a big amount, and certainly less than products that use whey protein as a main ingredient. But it still could be an issue for people highly sensitive to milk products.

Medium Chain Triglycerides

Medium chain triglycerides are a type of saturated fat. They can help the body use fat for energy and may improve metabolism.

However, there’s only 2g of fat in here so it’s unlikely that this ingredient will offer any major benefit. That said, most people who buy this probably aren’t looking for a lot of fat anyway since it’s a low-calorie protein powder.

Does MRE Lite Work?

MRE Lite is likely a high-quality protein supplement that can work for muscle growth and recovery, or to simply help you get more protein in your diet.

All of the protein sources used are rich in essential amino acids and BCAAs that can boost muscle protein synthesis and support workout recovery and performance.

There is still some whey in it from the whole milk powder, but it’s much lower in whey compared to specific whey protein supplements, so it is likely easier to digest for people sensitive to whey or dairy products.

How Does MRE Lite Compare?

MRE Lite is obviously very different from most protein powders due to the whole food sources used. However, it’s ultimately not THAT different in terms of results and benefits.

For example, you’re getting 24g of protein powder serving which is very normal for protein supplements. And it’s great that it provides all of the essential amino acids and BCAAs, but we wouldn’t say that that’s a defining feature that sets it apart since many protein supplements do that too (whether it’s whey or even plant proteins that use different sources at the same time).

So, ultimately the main feature is that it contains less whey protein which is better for people who normally don’t tolerate whey protein well, while still being a very bioavailable, high-quality protein supplement.

Who is MRE Lite Best For?

Redcon1 MRE Lite is best for people who want a low-calorie, whole-food protein powder alternative to whey protein to support muscle growth and recovery while reducing the chance of whey-related side effects, such as bloating and gas.

How to Take MRE Lite

MRE Lite is a protein powder. Mix one serving (one scoop) with four to six ounces of water or another beverage of choice.

You can take it any time you want more protein, such as after a workout, in between meals, or before bed.

Is MRE Lite Safe?

MRE Lite by Redcon1 should be safe for most people. The ingredients are all generally recognized as safe.

Possible side effects are mainly mild and include:

  • Upset stomach
  • Diarrhea
  • Other digestive issues
  • Allergic reactions

MRE Lite is made in the USA in cGMP, FDA-registered facilities. It is third-party tested by ABC for purity, potency, and quality.

There are some allergens as MRE Lite contains fish (salmon), eggs, and milk. Also, MRE Lite contains artificial flavors as well as artificial sweeteners (e.g. sucralose).

Verdict: MRE Lite Review

Redcon1 MRE Lite is a well-formulated, low-calorie protein supplement. They offer a unique line-up of high-quality protein sources rich in BCAAs and essential amino acids to support muscle growth, recovery, and strength.

And there’s very little whey in it, which may make it a good alternative for people who get side effects from whey protein, such as bloating. However, it does still have milk in it and some other allergens, as well as artificial flavors and sweeteners, which some may find off-putting.

Back to the positives, MRE Lite is formulated to have a creamy texture and comes in nine different flavors. And it’s priced in a reasonable range for most people.

So, all things considered, MRE Lite seems to be a good option for people who want a well-formulated, whole food protein powder.
