Performance Lab Flex Review – Will This Supplement Help Your Joints?

As we grow older, we start to experience a wide range of pains and aches throughout our bodies. It’s a normal part of the aging process and something that we’ll all deal with at one point or another.

In fact, some of us will experience it sooner rather than later. Exercise, injury, infection, disease, and much more can lead to joint pain. While there are a variety of ways to treat achy and stiff joints, there’s no such thing as a one-cure-fits-all. Some people may never get the relief they need.

No matter what the cause of your joint pain is, there’s no doubting the importance of a healthy diet. It’s no secret that your body’s performance is directly related to the nutrients you provide it throughout the day, and this is no different with your joints.

There are many joint supplements available today, including Joint Juice and Animal Flex. But among the many different supplements out there that claim to soothe, relieve, and support your joints, ligaments, tendons, and cartilage, Performance Lab Flex might be one of the best — and in this review, we’ll tell you why!

Flex By Performance Lab Supplement

What Is Performance Lab Flex?

As we briefly mentioned above, Flex by Performance Lab is a supplement designed to support joint health — including the ligaments, tendons, and cartilage. It’s a six-ingredient blend in the form of a capsule, making for easy consumption.

Performance Lab actually markets this product as a flexibility-enhancer, meaning it will work double-time as protection and a performance-booster. You can finally start to say goodbye to the joint limitations, joint pain, and longevity.

Performance Lab Flex can be used by a variety of people and utilized in a variety of situations, especially since your joints are one of the most important parts of your body in terms of mobility.

Your joints will face a lot of wear and tear each day, whether you’re lifting weights, running or jogging, texting or typing, working, or simply growing older. With Flex, you can get back to the activities you love without having to hide your pain from everyone else.

Flex By Performance Lab

To give you a better idea of how your joints work and how Performance Lab Flex can help improve them, we’ll detail everything you need to know below!

Where Are The Joints Located And What Do They Do?

Joints can be found throughout the body, and there are estimated to be anywhere from 150-250 joints in the human body. The definition of a joint, however, comes with a bit of confusion. Most people define it as the point where two bones meet, but others take it a step further and reserve the term for points where two bones connect to promote mobility.

Either way, doctors will classify joints into three different types — synarthroses, amphiarthroses, and diarthroses. Synarthroses, also known as fibrous joints, have no mobility (bones in your skull), and Amphiarthroses, also known as cartilaginous joints, come with limited movement (think your spine).

The diarthroses joints, also known as synovial joints, are the most common joints. They contain synovial fluid, which allows total and complete mobility (think knees and shoulders). There are six main types of synovial joints, including:

  1. Pivot Joint – a bone that can allow movement along a single axis (ex: forearm)
  2. Hinge Joint – a joint that opens and closes along one axis (ex: knee, elbow)
  3. Saddle Joint – looks like a saddle that another bone sits on top of like a horse (ex: base of the thumb)
  4. Ball-and-Socket Joint – the round end of a bone sits in the socket of another bone, allowing movement all around (ex: shoulder, hip)
  5. Gliding Joint – bones that meet at a flat surface and glide against each other (ex: wrist)
  6. Condyloid Joint – bones that allow movement without rotation (ex: jaw, fingers)

Pain in any of these joints can cause certain limitations to your daily routine and bring a certain level of discomfort that travels with you throughout the day. If you start to experience any joint pain in the body, you should speak to a professional immediately, so it doesn’t get any worse.

What Are The Most Common Causes Of Joint Pain?

Joint pain is experienced by everyone at one point in their life. A large reason for this is because joint pain can be caused by plenty of different reasons.

One of the most common causes will be arthritis, which involves inflammation and tenderness of one or more joints in the body. Believe it or not, there are over 100 different types of arthritis, and they will all get worse with age.

Outside of that, you can expect joint pain as a result of injury, infection, disease, inflammation, lupus, gout, mumps, hepatitis, cancer, fibromyalgia, chondromalacia, rickets, or simply overusing/misusing the joints. The weather has also been known to play a role in joint pain. When the barometric pressure changes all of a sudden, your tendons, muscles, and joints will expand and contract. This could cause joint pain or worsen it if you were already experiencing it.

Joint pain is generally going to be easy to spot. Any pain lasting more than a few days, signs of swollen, red, or tender joints, limited movement, or a joint that looks deformed can all be reasons to visit a specialist.

How Do We Typically Treat Joint Pain?

If you’re experiencing joint pain, a doctor will have a variety of different treatments to consider. The treatment chosen will likely be determined based on the severity of the pain and the reason it started.

Let’s take a look at the different ways you can find joint relief when you need it most:

  • Medication – I’m sure we’ve all taken ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, or aspirin when we have pain in our joints. This is typically the first thing we’ll do as a home treatment.
  • Topicals – Ben Gay is a common topical agent used to soothe aching joints, but Capsaicin is another popular option. These will help release endorphins in the body.
  • Injections – generally combined with an anesthetic, some doctors will inject a steroid medication directly into the joint. This isn’t always a permanent solution.
  • Therapy – a physical therapist will be able to pinpoint the cause and find exercises and easy joint movements to help stabilize, recover, and improve function in the joint.
  • Home Care – some people will elect to wear a brace over the joint, ice the area, rest it well, and keep it elevated in the comfort of their own home. This can sometimes do the trick.
  • Supplements – supplements are generally used to help improve recovery time and speed up the process. You should speak with your doctor before taking supplements for joint pain, especially if you’re already on a certain medication.

Some patients will have to go through a series of treatments before finding the relief they were searching for. Don’t get discouraged if one treatment doesn’t work. Keep trying and don’t give up on your body because it won’t give up on you!

What Are Glucosamine And Chondroitin?

We haven’t mentioned Glucosamine and Chondroitin yet, but these two substances have been known to help relieve joint pain and reduce joint destruction. In fact, these two substances are naturally found in cartilage, which acts as the cushion surrounding your joints.

Glucosamine and Chondroitin are commonly found in joint supplements and provide a lot of benefits to your joints. Let’s take a closer look at these two substances:

  • Glucosamine – commonly found in the outer covering of shellfish, this substance helps to rebuild cartilage that’s been broken down over time.
  • Chondroitin – commonly found in shark cartilage and bovine tissue, chondroitin acts as a sponge that keeps water inside the cartilage.

Supplementing with these two substances can help restore levels found in cartilage that are known to decrease as we age. Together, they are designed to relieve joint pain, prevent the breakdown of cartilage, and repair torn cartilage.

Does Performance Lab Make Any Claims With Flex?

If you were considering adding Performance Lab Flex to your daily routine, you’d be happy to find out that they include both Glucosamine and Chondroitin in their formula. Outside of that, they combine several other herbs and nutrients to fully support joints, ligaments, tendons, and cartilage.

If you visit their official website, you’ll see a wide variety of claims made by this product. We’ll list those claims below, but we’ll also break down their ingredients to see if you can truly rely on those claims being made.

Here’s what Performance Lab says you can expect with Flex:

  1. Reduce and prevent pain and swelling in the joints
  2. Soothe joints that are overused on a daily basis
  3. Keep your connective tissue protected
  4. Lubricate joints, making you more flexible
  5. Enhance the synthesis and repair of cartilage
  6. Promote bone density
  7. Vegan-friendly formula with prebiotic-infused capsules
  8. Improved shock absorption in the joints

As you can see, Performance Lab has put together a supplement designed to treat and support overall joint health. You won’t have to feel stiff, achy, or limited in motion and can finally get back to the activities that put a smile on your face.

Performance Lab Flex Ingredients

Now that we’ve taken a good look at the science and anatomy of joints — as well as what Flex is designed to do — it’s time to see if the ingredients match the claims. That’s why we often say the ingredient label is the “X that marks the spot” when it comes to supplements.

Performance Lab utilizes six ingredients in Flex — CurcuWIN Turmeric, ApresFlex Boswellia Serrata, Glucosamine Sulfate 2KCL, Mythocondro (Chondroitin Sulfate), OptiMSM (methylsulfonylmethane), and NutriGenesis Strontium.

Flex By Performance Lab Supplement facts

Let’s take a closer look at what these ingredients actually do!

CurcuWIN Turmeric

Turmeric has long been touted for its anti-inflammatory properties, but most people probably know it as a spice used in curry powder or seasoning. It comes with a bitter taste and is widely used because of its yellow color.

Turmeric gets its color from Curcuminoids, one of which being curcumin. Studies suggest curcumin to be beneficial by providing antioxidants, regulating COX-2 enzymes to relax your joints, protecting cartilage from damage, increasing the synthesis of collagen, and reducing stiffness in the joints.

CurcuWIN, which is created by Performance Lab, is a form of curcumin designed to work 46x better than typical curcumin.

Recommended Dosage: 200-500mg per day

ApresFlex Boswellia Serrata

Boswellia Serrata, commonly referred to as Indian frankincense, is extracted from a Boswellia Serrata tree to produce a gum resin. It’s known to have strong anti-inflammatory benefits, as well as helping to reduce pain.

In fact, boswellic acid has been shown to prevent leukotrienes from forming in the body. These leukotrienes are believed to cause inflammation. Of the four boswellic acids found in Boswellia Serrata, 5-LO and AKBA are the two most effective. 5-LO works against leukotrienes, while AKBA helps build structure and mobility in the joints.

ApresFlex Boswellia Serrata is a form of this extract created by Performance Lab. It uses modern technology to make the extract 52x more effective.

Recommended Dosage: 100-250mg per day

Glucosamine Sulfate 2KCL

We’ve touched base on Glucosamine Sulfate already in this review. In case you forgot, it’s found in the cartilage and contributes to the recovery and regeneration of joints. It’s actually an amino sugar used to form connective tissue as a building block protein.

Supplementing with Glucosamine is believed to help soothe and lubricate your joints, while also supplying a more full-range of motion. Although it’s typically sourced from shellfish, Performance Lab sources theirs from corn — making it vegan-friendly.

Recommended Dosage: 350-600mg per day

Mythocondro (Chondroitin Sulfate)

The other substance we’ve covered before, Chondroitin Sulfate, is just as important as Glucosamine. In fact, they are both found in the same part of the body — cartilage.

Chondroitin acts as a sponge that helps keep water inside the cartilage. Maintaining hydration is essential to keeping cartilage lubricated and shock-absorbing. It’ll also help produce collagen, which is important to the structure of cartilage.

Alongside Glucosamine, Chondroitin Sulfate will help to grow and repair cartilage for peak performance. The Chondroitin Sulfate found in Performance Lab Flex is vegetarian-friendly and will help increase bioavailability by 43%.

Recommended Dosage: 100-250mg per day

OptiMSM (methylsulfonylmethane)

Methylsulfonylmethane, commonly referred to as MSM, is a key nutrient in the formation of collagen in the cartilage. As we know, collagen is essential to the structure and rebuilding of cartilage.

In addition to that, MSM plays a key role in maintaining Glucosamine and Chondroitin. That’s why you’ll see it alongside both of those substances in Performance Lab Flex. Believe it or not, their OptiMSM blend is the only one made in the USA that’s GRAS-designated.

Recommended Dosage: 100-250mg per day

NutriGenesis Strontium

Strontium is a trace mineral with qualities similar to those of calcium. It will actually replace calcium inside the bone due to its higher density (it’s heavier). This will appear to make the bone density appear heavier all together, but won’t necessarily mean new bone is being formed.

At the same time, some studies suggest Strontium to assist in the production of bone-building cells, as well as prevent the breakdown of bone. Like the rest of the ingredients in Flex, Performance Lab formulates it themselves.

Recommended Dosage: 300-500mcg per day

Performance Lab Flex Dosage, Packaging, And Pricing

The packaging for Performance Lab Flex is going to be similar to the rest of their supplements. It features your white and fairly plain bottle that comes in a small box (like cologne). The design on the bottle, which is the same design as the box, is just a big square with an icon in the top right. The square is a gradient orange-yellow color.

Their label, which is pretty bare and limited on information, is completely different from their website, which is full of information. The front of the bottle says “Performance Lab” and “Flex,” while the back of the label has ingredients, nutrition facts, and directions.

Flex By Performance Lab tablets

Here’s a quick look at the dosages of each ingredient:

  • CurcuWIN Turmeric – 250mg

  • Glucosamine Sulfate – 500mg
  • Mythochondro (Chondroitin Sulfate) – 100mg

Each bottle contains 60 capsules, and each serving is two capsules — enough for a one month’s supply. You can find it available on their website only and will cost $39 per bottle, much like their other supplements. You will receive a free bottle for purchasing three bottles, costing you just $117 for a 4-month supply.

Flex Pros vs. Cons

Supplements are always tough to buy because no one really seems to know what they’re getting. Most supplement labels just throw a bunch of big words and confusing concepts at the consumer in hopes they buy it.

Hopefully, we’ve done a pretty good job of dumbing these concepts down and explaining what Performance Lab Flex is intended to do — as well as what you should expect from it.

If you’re still not sure if this is the right supplement for you, we’ll summarize a lot of what we’ve gone over thus far in a pros vs. cons list. The pros will heavily outweigh the cons, but that doesn’t mean this supplement is for everyone!

Pros

  • Optimizes joints for flexibility, improves shock absorption, and lubricates joints
  • Doesn’t stop at the joints, also supports your ligaments, tendons, and cartilage
  • Provides herbs that assist in relieving pain
  • Designed for use at work, the gym, home, or out with friends
  • Protects joints and improves joint recovery
  • Easy on the stomach with prebiotic-infused capsules

Flex By Performance Lab Supplement features

Cons

  • Can be expensive at over $1.00 per serving
  • Have to take two capsules for one serving, not ideal for those that don’t enjoy pills
  • Can only be purchased on their official website

Claims vs. Reality

Earlier in this review, we listed out the claims and guarantees made by Performance Lab with this Flex. Since then, we’ve taken a hard look at the ingredients they use, dosages, and compared the pros to the cons. By now, we have a pretty good idea of what to expect from Flex.

Performance Lab does a great job of sticking to the scientific research supporting joint health. They do this with all their products, and it’s a reason why they are heavily regarded as one of the highest quality supplement providers today.

Boswellia Serrata and Curcumin have centuries of use and research supporting them. They’re known to be a power duo when combined and play a role in flexibility, relieving joint pain, and overall function/performance. The addition of Strontium adds to this effect.

In addition to that, the use of Glucosamine Sulfate and Chondroitin Sulfate provides a mounding amount of support to your cartilage. This will assist in shock absorption, relieve pain, and improve cartilage recovery. The addition of MSM helps this process become that much more effective.

It’s pretty clear that the claims and guarantees match what this product actually does for your joints. If you take a look at the customer reviews, you’ll see that it remains true for a majority of people as well!

Final Verdict: Performance Lab Flex

Joint pain affects millions of people each year and will only get worse as we continue to age. In fact, over 22% of all adults have been diagnosed with arthritis — a number that’s higher in women (23.5%) than men (18.1%).

In addition to that, nearly half of all those people will suffer from limitations in their life, meaning they won’t be able to fully do the things they once enjoyed doing on a regular basis. Those numbers above don’t even take into account the joint pain we experience every day from overuse, injury, or infection. It’s no wonder so many people are in search of joint relief.

For anyone suffering from joint pain or joint limitations, you won’t want to neglect the power of therapy, home care, rest, and proper medication. If your doctor suggests that medication won’t be necessary, supplements can help you receive a natural boost each day.

If you’re looking for a supplement that supports joints from all angles, Performance Lab Flex is the supplement for you. It’s one of the best you’ll find on the market and is worth the purchase — especially if you want to finally find relief from that joint pain!
