Many people in modern society deal with high stress and the coinciding sleep issues that result. Of course, lack of sleep can further increase stress, creating a vicious cycle. This may be a large reason why so many people are out there taking a number of supposed stress-busting supplements.
One such product that’s made its way into popularity is called Avantera Unwind. In this Avantera Unwind review, we’ll take a thorough look at this supplement so you can see just how effective it may be for reducing stress, improving sleep, and maybe even more.

About Avantera Unwind
Unwind is an adaptogen supplement created by Avantera, the same makers as Avantera Elevate. Adaptogens are ingredients that help the body cope with stress, so this is essentially a stress-management or stress-reduction supplement.
Avantera claims that Unwind is specifically designed to help users “unwind” (go figure!) after a long day with the use of 7 different adaptogens, all clinically tested.
Avantera Unwind Benefits
Avantera Unwind is primarily designed to provide benefits including reducing stress and improving sleep, but it is also promoted to support the immune system and improve memory.
Stress Reduction
Avantera Unwind includes key adaptogens such as ashwagandha, as well as magnesium glycinate, to help the body reduce stress, anxiety, and tension. Overall, it’s supposed to act on the central nervous system to mellow you out.
Improved Sleep
While it may not be a dedicated sleep supplement such as the likes of Performance Lab Sleep or Dream EZ, Avantera Unwind does include ingredients that will help you get a better night’s rest and improve your sleep. Avantera Unwind includes melatonin for sleep regulation; magnesium glycinate for sleep quality; and a blend of various flowers to improve REM sleep. Certain ingredients that reduce stress also tie into improved sleep as well.
Immune Support
Avantera Unwind also claims to offer immune support via the inclusion of zinc and the flower blend, which purportedly improve various aspects of immune function and inflammation. It’s all about kickstarting the body’s natural processes.
Memory
Finally, it is also stated that the ashwagandha in Avantera Unwind will help support better memory, primarily due to its claimed neuroprotective effects.
Alright, so you know what Unwind is supposed to do, but will it actually do these things? Continue reading to find out!
Avantera Unwind Ingredients
The ingredients in Avantera Unwind are a blend of minerals, herbs, and flower extracts. Here are the specific ingredients, with the dosages based on the serving size of two capsules:
- Magnesium (120mg)
- Zinc (30mg)
- Avantera Stress Support Blend (390mg), which contains:
- Sensoril Ashwagandha Root and Leaf Extract
- Passionflower Herb or Whole Plant Powder
- English Lavender Powder
- Chamomile Flower Powder
- Melatonin (1mg)
Magnesium
Unwind starts off on the right foot by including the all-important mineral, magnesium. Magnesium has many roles in the central nervous system (CNS) and has a profound influence on stress. Basically, magnesium is important for the calming and mood-boosting neurotransmitters, such as GABA and serotonin.
You also need enough magnesium to reduce stress and effectively relax. Magnesium is necessary for healthy cortisol levels and for controlling adrenaline and noradrenaline. All of this is why magnesium is sometimes called the “original chill pill.”
Unsurprisingly, a magnesium deficiency can cause greater stress, and this further depletes magnesium levels, creating a vicious cycle. It also can lead to trouble sleeping and impair sleep quality. This is why magnesium supplementation can be beneficial. Research shows that magnesium supplementation is associated with reducing stress and anxiety as well as improved sleep quality and duration. Anywhere from 100mg to 1g is typically used. Lastly, the form they used (magnesium glycinate) is a more bioavailable form due to the chelation process, and the glycine in it may further provide relaxation effects.
Zinc
Another mineral included in Avantera Unwind is Zinc, in the chelated form of zinc picolinate. Zinc is most well-known for its immune-supportive properties. For example, it is necessary for the production of a number of immune-response cells and helps to control inflammation and oxidative stress, among many other things.
However, a relatively recent finding is that zinc also plays a role in sleep regulation. Researchers found that zinc status is associated with sleep, and that zinc supplementation can improve both sleep quality and quantity. And a recent review showed that dosages much higher than the RDA (which is around 10mg) could be beneficial for various health issues.
Avantera Stress Support Blend
Unwind is also featured by the Avantera Stress Support Blend, which consists of ashwagandha, passionflower, lavender, and chamomile.
Ashwagandha
Ashwagandha has been used for thousands of years for many different ailments, and research confirms a number of the long-held beliefs about its benefits. Ashwagandha is one of the best adaptogens out there as it has been scientifically proven to significantly lower stress and anxiety, in part marked by reduced cortisol levels.
It acts on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and leads to healthier stress responses. Supplementation is sometimes even as effective, if not better, than anti-anxiety and antidepressant medications. It is also useful for insomnia since it can reduce stress that would otherwise keep one awake.
Additionally, ashwagandha is shown to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress, including in the nervous system, acting as a defender against neurodegeneration. It also can increase acetylcholine levels. So, ashwagandha may also be effective for improving memory as well as overall cognitive health.
The most common doses in research are 500 to 600mg, but there is a range of anywhere from about 250mg to 5g per day. And Unwind includes an effective, research-backed form of ashwagandha in Sensoril, which is tested to have an optimal amount of withanosides (one of the main compounds responsible for the benefits).
Flower Blend: Passionflower, Lavender, and Chamomile
Also included in this blend are three relaxing flowers: passionflower, lavender, and chamomile. They also have a long history of use in traditional medicine and have a number of scientifically proven benefits. Essentially, all of these flowers are able to act on the central nervous system and HPA-axis in order to reduce stress. Thus, they could also be classified as adaptogens as well as mild sedatives.
Some research shows they can reduce blood pressure and cortisol levels while also increasing calming neurotransmitters, such as GABA. Lavender, passionflower, and chamomile have all been shown to significantly reduce stress, anxiety, depression, and insomnia, and they can also markedly improve sleep quality. Basically, they’re what I would call the “chill-out trio.”
Finally, they can also reduce inflammation and may benefit immune health.
Melatonin
The last ingredient is one likely everyone has heard of: melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone produced naturally in the body and is a key regulator of the sleep cycle and the circadian rhythm in general. Low melatonin levels can impair sleep since the body won’t be getting the appropriate signals it needs.
Unfortunately, many things can disrupt melatonin levels, and this is why supplementation can be beneficial. A recent analysis showed that melatonin is able to improve sleep quality in various groups of people, although it wasn’t as effective for people with pre-existing mental disorders. Other research shows melatonin can decrease the time it takes to fall asleep and increase sleep duration. There is no definitive “optimal dosage,” but positive results are seen with 0.5mg to 5mg, or more.
Does Avantera Unwind Work?
Taken together, the evidence shows that Avantera Unwind is most likely going to work as a calming supplement. The quality of the ingredients is outstanding because all of them are well-researched and proven to offer a number of benefits related to stress, sleep, anxiety, and related issues.
Also, the dosage for some of the ingredients is in line with what is used in the research, such as with magnesium, zinc, and melatonin. In an ideal world, the dosage of magnesium might be a little higher, but it should still provide benefits.
The main issue related to dosage is in regard to the Avantera Stress Support Blend. The total weight is only 390mg, yet ashwagandha alone is usually most beneficial with at least 500mg, so it is very likely that there aren’t enough of the ingredients in this blend to produce optimal results. With that being said, since they all are able to do similar things, it’s still likely that you’ll get some benefit from this part of the product.
Claims vs. Reality
This leads me to the next point about what benefits you can actually expect to see. First, it is very likely that you’ll experience reduced stress since Avantera Unwind includes a number of ingredients known to do this, including magnesium, ashwagandha, and various flower extracts. You may also experience mild improvements in anxiety, depression, and overall mood, but it is impossible to tell for certain since a large part of Unwind is a proprietary blend.
Also, literally every ingredient in Unwind- not just melatonin! – has been proven to benefit sleep in some way, whether through improving sleep directly or indirectly by reducing stress and anxiety. So, it is highly likely that you’ll experience better sleep, even if it’s just maybe sleeping a half-hour longer or falling asleep a few minutes earlier.
Avantera Unwind also claims to benefit immune health, and this may occur due to the zinc in it along with the anti-inflammatory effects from ashwagandha and the flower blend. If you already have enough zinc, or otherwise have a healthy immune system, you might not experience much of a benefit here.
Lastly, it is possible that you’ll experience better memory based on the inclusion of ashwagandha, which offers neuroprotective benefits. However, since the dosage of ashwagandha is unclear, no definitive claims can be made.
Who is Avantera Unwind Best For?
With the name “Unwind,” you probably have an initial idea of who this product is for. And yes, it is likely best for high-strung, chronically stressed people that need something at the end of the day to “take the edge off.” If you’re someone who has stress, anxiety, depression, and/or sleep problems, yet you’re worried about the addictive potential of pharmaceuticals, this product is worth considering. I can’t guarantee that it will help you, but based on what’s included, it is definitely worth looking into. It could also be taken on a sporadic basis during short periods of high stress for people who are otherwise typically easy-going and not very stressed.
Is Avantera Unwind Safe?
Avantera Unwind contains a pretty safe list of ingredients, but here are some possible side effects, all of which are likely to be mild if they do occur:
- Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
- Muscle cramps and contractions
- Headache
- Sleepiness, drowsiness, fatigue, etc.
- Allergic reactions

- Agitation, anxiety, and irritability
Also, Unwind is keto-friendly, vegan, non-GMO, and free from soy, nuts, dairy, sugar, and gluten. It is also made in the USA and is certified by Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
