Omega XL Review – How Does It Compare?

Constant joint pain can be challenging to live with. It can even be more difficult to find relief, as sometimes prescription drugs only cause other issues.

Finding an alternative supplement that does what prescription meds can’t do is something many living with chronic pain desire. But there are so many dietary supplements out there that claim to help. How do you know which ones are legit?

For the purposes of this article, we will discuss Omega XL, a dietary supplement specifically designed to help people with painful joints by using a combination of Omega 3 fatty acids.

What is Omega XL?

What Is Omegan XL

Omega XL is a daily nutritional supplement to help relieve inflammation and pain in the joints.

It contains over 30 Omega 3 fatty acids, all derived from the green-lipped mussel, which is native to New Zealand. The extract from these mussels carries up to 22 times as many healthy fatty acids as fish oil does.

The company behind this “secret” to the relief of joint pain is Great Healthworks. It was started in 2003 by Ken Meares, who is both the founder and CEO, to give people quality dietary supplements and so that they could better take care of themselves.

Omega XL was the first product they created with the mindset of also educating people about their health and how to practice “self-care.”

Since then, they have developed many other nutritional supplements for Men’s Health, Women’s Health, Digestive Health, Antioxidants, Vitamins & Minerals, and so much more.

Omega XL Ingredients

Omega XL Ingredients

The primary ingredients in Omega XL are:

  • Perna Canaliculus PCSO-524 (patented oil extract) – This is the proprietary blend, which is rich in Omega 3 fatty acids taken directly from the green-lipped mussels in New Zealand. It also contains about 30 other fatty acids, including EPA, DHA, ETA, and OTA. All of these free fatty acids reduce inflammation and pain in the joints and can also be good for the heart and the immune system.
  • Extra-Virgin Olive Oil – Aids in reducing inflammation and is believed to have anti-oxidation benefits.
  • Vitamin E – helps the body fight off free radicals so it can produce healthy red blood cells.

The company lists the total dosage of the fatty acids at 300mg, but doesn’t list the dosage of each individual fatty acid, nor does it say what the dosage of olive oil and vitamin E there is. As such, it can be difficult to accurately assess the effectiveness, quality, and safety of the ingredients in Omega XL.

How Does Omega XL Work?

How Omega XL works is rather simple. The Omega 3 fatty acids and other fatty acids work together to provide powerful anti-inflammatory aid to your joints and muscles, which then relieves any pain or stiffness in said joints and muscles.

It is believed that the fatty acids all work together to fight and relieve inflammation, specifically in the lipoxygenase (LOS) and cyclooxygenase (COX) pathways. It also competes with arachidonic acid for entry to said pathways. This effectively pushes agents that cause inflammation out of the way, so they don’t gain entry to your joints or muscles.

By doing all of that to relieve inflammation, pain is also greatly reduced.

Is Omega XL Safe?

Since all-natural ingredients are used, Omega XL claims to be extremely safe, even for those who are allergic to shellfish, milk, yeast, corn, or gluten.

That said, it is not recommended for use by women who ware pregnant or nursing.

There are also no side effects, as stated on the Omega XL website, nor are there any known drug interactions. However, since there isn’t much information about all of the fatty acids included and their dosage, it can be difficult to know how someone might react.

As with any nutritional supplement, you should speak with your doctor before taking it if you have any concerns.

For those who have sensitive stomachs when it comes to taking dietary supplements, they recommend that you eat whenever you take your Omega XL dose.

Where To Buy Omega XL

Omega XL buy and cost

The only buying option on the Omega XL website is to purchase two bottles, which is a two months’ supply. This normally costs $144, but they have an introductory price for first-timers of $39.95 plus $4.95 shipping.

If you buy from Great Healthworks, it’s $129.95 for 120 capsules unless you choose the subscription option, which gives you a 15% discount.

Does Omega XL Work?

It’s iffy, but we lean towards yes. On the one hand, Omega XL isn’t completely transparent when it comes to their supplement formula, which can be cause for concern. On the other, they do include a high amount of Omega-3 fatty acids, which have been proven to help create an anti-inflammatory effect on the body.

It can be hard to say if Omega XL will really help your joint and muscle pain. We suggest you take all the above information into consideration before buying this supplement.

Omega XL: Is It Worth It?

Omega XL is a powerful dietary supplement for easing joint pain and inflammation. We do believe, based on what we’ve read, that they are legitimate and not a scam.

However, the fact that they aren’t 100% transparent about what goes into the supplement’s formula does leave us a bit concerned. That’s something to consider if you’re okay with before placing your order.

Since there are no customer testimonials on their website and only a paid spokesperson, gauging whether or not this product does what it says is tricky. Their customer service leaves a lot to be desired, as well.

As such, we would advise caution in buying this product. Talk to your doctor first and see what they think about it before giving it a try.
