Tanner Buchanan Workout and DIET
Tanner Buchanan grew up in Ohio where he did some martial arts and tap dancing as a kid. His first onscreen appearance came in 2010 in Modern Family. Buchanan found more work in shows like Girl Meets World and Game Shakers before being cast as a main character in 2016 on Designated Survivor. Since 2018, Buchanan has played in Cobra Kai. He also stars in He’s All That. He has millions of followers on social media. Buchanan is 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs about 150 lbs.
Tanner Buchanan’s Diet
Getting cast in Cobra Kai meant a complete commitment for Buchanan including both diet and karate instruction. He hired a trainer and works hard to live the life of a martial artist. He says it can sometimes get old, but he’s sticking to it. His standards are things like chicken, broccoli, rice, eggs, avocados, and protein shakes. For a treat, he sometimes gets a fruit smoothie. He consumes plenty of water to stay hydrated through his killer workouts.

Because he takes his role seriously, Buchanan eats what his trainer tells him to, which is a lot of chicken breasts and broccoli.
Buchanan’s diet is strict, but the dividends are paying off. He is completely shredded.

More than Look the Part
To play in Cobra Kai, Buchanan had to do more than look good on screen. He needed to bring real skill to the role.
To get in shape for Cobra Kai, Buchanan hired a trainer and worked with him for 3 1/2 months prior to the beginning of filming.
Like so many celebrities, Buchanan built a gym in his garage during the pandemic so he wouldn’t backslide during the lockdown.

Do each group as a superset, with minimal rest between moves:
Kettlebell upright rows: 20 reps x 4 sets
Dumbbell punches: 10 reps/side x 4 sets
Dumbbell thrusters: 10 reps x 4 sets

Respect for the PAs
Buchanan has firsthand experience on what it’s like to be a production assistant. He took a job as one when he was 16, and says they work 20-hour days.
For fun, Buchanan once dressed up as a PA, including makeup and a fake beard. He says he confounded everyone, especially when he showed he knew what to do on set.
Buchanan is notoriously early to work. He says it’s a Midwestern time etiquette thing, and that being on time is late.
Not a Party Animal
Buchanan says that he’s not really into going out, and that he’d rather stay home and rehearse his lines or chill in front of the tube.
Buchanan says that if there’s an oddball member of his family, it’s him.
Buchanan has a hidden talent: tap dancing. He used to travel around his home state of Ohio competing in tap dancing contests as a child. He even won a few.
Buchanan can not only act and dance, he also a plays a pretty mean guitar and was in a band as a teenager. Some of his favorite bands are heavy metal, including Escape Plan and Blood Bath.
