Tim McGraw’s Fitness Routine

Weekly Routine

Regain Control

McGraw was active in his youth, but middle age spread hit him hard. He began walking every day which turned into running and then weightlifting. He saw his singing improve along with his physique.

Get a Trainer

McGraw initially worked with Roger Yuan, a stunt man and martial arts expert who also worked with Daniel Craig for the James Bond films.

Get Motivated

McGraw’s a-ha moment was after his daughter saw him in a movie and said he looked ‘big’ on screen. That was all the motivation he needed to get moving, and his family continues to inspire him.

Get Creative

McGraw puts a down-home spin on his exercises. He calls the farmer’s walk with kettlebells ‘taking out the trash.’ His yoga flow is ‘Infinity’ while sumo squats are ‘Beyoncés.’

Daily Dose

Whenever possible, McGraw will squeeze in 2 workouts a day and sometimes more. It might be time on the elliptical or treadmill, and he likes CrossFit. He is also known for doing a 4-5 mile run right before a show, then it’s into the shower and straight out on stage.

Tough But Fun

McGraw tries to make his killer 90-minute exercise routine exciting while pushing his limits. The workouts can go for as long as 3 hours when he’s ‘having fun.’

Favorite Things

McGraw worked with Snap Fitness to create TRUMAV, a gym filled with his favorite tools: battle ropes, TRX and kettlebells. He has the same equipment in his mobile gym that he takes with him on the road. The whole band uses it.

Tim McGraw’s Supplements

Cayenne

Cayenne

Part of McGraw’s morning wake up beverage is cayenne. The natural compounds in cayenne offers many benefits, including reducing hunger, boosting metabolism and lowering blood pres-sure.

Lemon Juice

Lemon Juice

Another part of McGraw’s morning brew is lemon juice. The vit-amin C in lemon juice helps flush toxin from the body and stimu-lates gastric juices, aiding digestion.

Manuka Honey

Manuka Honey

Another component of McGraw’s morning drink is Manuka honey. All honey has healing properties, but Manuka goes the extra mile. Despite being sweet, its antibacterial and antioxidant prop-erties can help improve oral health. It can also soothe a sore throat and heal and prevent stomach ulcers, and improve overall digestion.

ground flaxseed

Flax Seed

McGraw adds ground flaxseed to his protein pancakes. Flax seeds are high in omega 3s, which reduce inflammation through-out the body and protect your heart and brain, making it a favorite among vegetarians and those who don’t eat fish.

Goji Berries

Goji Berries

McGraw will often sprinkle healthful goji berries on his morning oatmeal. Goji berries improve immunity, are high in antioxidants and can help stabilize blood sugar. They may also improve ener-gy and mood.

Liquid Aminos

Rather than regular soy sauce, McGraw uses liquid aminos. It has a milder taste than soy sauce, and is free of chemical addi-tives and gluten.

Tim McGraw’s Lifestyle

Rise & Shine

McGraw doesn’t mess around with his exercise routine. He’s up every day at 7 to work out.

Surprise in the Closet

While searching through his mother’s closet, 11-year-old McGraw found his birth certificate and learned the man he thought was father was not. His biological father, former MLB pitcher Tug McGraw, continued to deny paternity until Tim was 18.

Protective Papa

McGraw’s 3 daughters are adults now, but he was careful to keep them away from the media when they were growing up. All 3 girls can sing, and the eldest taught herself to play guitar and booked herself some shows without telling her parents.

(Not) An Encouraging Start

McGraw says his guitar playing was so bad at first, his college roommates would hide it. When his hero Keith Whitley died in 1989, McGraw dropped out of college and moved to Nashville.

{

McGraw on Seizing Opportunity

‘Be ready. Be primed for opportunity when it shows up because it will come once, it will move on quick, and if you’re not ready to make the shot, your whole destiny can change in a heartbeat.’

{

McGraw on the Rocker Lifestyle

‘No one wants to grow up and be a rock star to sing the same song over and over again in a studio. The reason you want to do this is to be in front of thousands of people, playing the guitar and doing what you love.’

{

McGraw on his Wife, Faith Hill

‘Faith saved my life in a lot of ways — from myself more than anything…My wife makes me a better man.’

{

McGraw on his Life

‘I think that I’m firing pretty much on all cylinders. I’m in a good place all the way around.’
