About Performance Mind Lab Pro
Performance Mind Lab Pro is a dietary supplement that supports mental health recovery and brain health. The manufacturer, Performance Lab, claims the ingredients in this product can improve your cognitive function, mental energy, memory and learning ability, and enhance your focus.
This supplement is a type of nootropic, a substance that is designed to improve cognitive function in healthy people.
Mind Lab Pro is an encapsulated supplement blend marketed as a “universal nootropic” that unlocks “100% brain power.” It contains a blend of natural supplements that have been researched with respect to cognitive enhancement.
This review will provide an overview of what Performance Lab Mind is, how it works, possible benefits and potential side effects.
What Are Nootropics
According to Wikipedia, “A nootropic is a drug, supplement or other substance that may improve cognitive function, particularly executive functions, memory, creativity or motivation in healthy individuals.” People take nootropics to increase focus and productivity, among other things.
Although the internet and technology have made life more convenient, they’ve also made it more competitive and stressful. In addition to competing with people from all over the world, we’re now competing with computers. Spending so much time on computers and smartphones is unnatural. Having too many options in terms of what to do can also be overwhelming. Finally, quick dopamine hits from social media and other forms of entertainment are reducing our attention spans, which (along with stress) are hindering our productivity.
Mind Lab Pro Ingredients
Citicoline – This sodium salt naturally-occurs in the body as CDP-choline. Taken orally as a popular nootropic, citicoline has been shown to improve memory and cognitive deficits by boosting dopamine and activating the central cholinergic system. Citicoline is generally well-tolerated.
Phosphatidylserine (PS) – This phospholipid naturally-occurs in the brain to protect nerve cells and neurotransmission. When taken orally, PS is well-absorbed and crosses the blood-brain barrier. PS has been shown to limit, stop or even reverse nerve cell degradation. It supports both short and long-term memory, learning, focus, reason, communication and reflexes.
Sharp PS-Green, or PS, is made from sunflower lecithin. It is a phospholipid, or type of fat with a phosphate group added, that is present in most human cells in the body.
PS is most present in the brain, where it provides structural support and improves brain cell communication. This may help to create more healthy nerve cells in the brain, form new nerve connections to improve learning, as well as repair damaged nerve cells.
PS also may reduce the amount of cortisol that is released in your body, the stress hormone.
PS is involved particularly in preventing age-related cognitive decline. Studies have shown a dose of 200-300mg per day may reduce the severity of memory loss and cognitive decline.
Mind contains 100mg of PS per dose, which may not be enough for optimal results. In one study, a dose of 50mg of PS was given to women with a positive effect, however it was given intramuscularly, not in pill form.
Bacopa Monnieri – This Ayurvedic herb has shown promise in terms of improving cognitive disorders, preventing damage due to oxidative stress, neurotrophin modulation as well as improving cognition in healthy people. Neurtophins are involved in synapse formation and neuroplasticity (the brain’s ability to change). Although bacopa has likely been used in India for thousands of years, long-term studies are needed to better understand its benefits and safety profile.
Lion’s Mane – This mushroom has been shown to have neurotrophic effects in the brain such as improving nerve growth factor, which indirectly plays an important role in concentration. Lion’s mane is a dietary mushroom in some Asian cultures and is gaining popularity as a cognitive-enhancer in the Western world.
Maritime Pine Bark Extract – Also called Pycnogenol, maritime pine bark extract has been shown to improve cognitive functioning (particularly spatial memory) in the elderly. It’s well-studied and has been demonstrated to be safe.
Maritime Pine Bark Extract contains antioxidants that relax blood vessels and boost blood flow to the brain. With a healthy blood flow, nutrients, glucose, and oxygen travel to the brain to provide needed energy. The antioxidants present help to reduce the cognitive decline that occurs as you age. It also stimulates healthy brain cells to be regenerated and kill off unhealthy ones.
In most studies, 100-300mg doses of maritime pine bark extract were given to test subjects, broken up into 2-3 doses at times. Mind contains 100mg maritime pine bark extract per dose.
N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine – This non-essential amino acid is the precursor to dopamine, norepinephrine, epinephrine (adrenaline), thyroid hormones and melanin. Tyrosine is synthesized from dietary L-Phenylalanine and marketed to boost brain levels of dopamine. Although tyrosine should, in theory, improve cognition as well as mood and has demonstrated some ability to do so, in reality it’s not that straightforward. One study showed that tyrosine actually worsened cognition in healthy, aging adults.
NALT is a water-soluble version of the amino acid tyrosine. Tyrosine is a small protein that is naturally produced by the body. Tyrosine helps the body to produce neurotransmitters like dopamine, adrenaline, and serotonin, which promote alertness and regulate mood.
NALT is added to Mind to help regulate mood, reduce anxiety and stress, in order to boost mental focus and performance of important tasks. It does this particularly during times of stress, like before an intense athletic event or important business meeting.
It may also reduce short-term memory loss.
NALT not absorbed as efficiently as tyrosine, and because of this a much larger dose is required to have the same effect. Doses range from 500mg to up to 7000mg of tyrosine, depending on the person’s weight.
Mind contains only 300mg of NALT, which is likely not enough to be of benefit in this product.
L-Theanine – This amino acid is found in tea (in much smaller amounts than is taken supplementally). Theanine increases alpha waves in the brain, which relax the mind without inducing drowsiness and could potentially improve concentration.
Rhodiola Rosea – This popular adaptogenic herb is taken to improve energy, focus and mood. Although it might help in these areas and has been shown improve memory and learning, it’s also mildly-stimulating and can cause side effects like dizziness, worsening anxiety and sleep disturbances.
Vitamin B6 – There’s some indication that this vitamin can help with cognitive functioning; however, it’s inconclusive. Although B6 does play a role in neurotransmitter synthesis, most people aren’t deficient. Nevertheless, the small amount of B6 in Mind Lab Pro shouldn’t hurt.
Vitamin B9 – Also called folate, this vitamin lowers homocysteine. Elevated homocysteine is seen in Alzheimer’s and dementia. Although folate lowers homocysteine, it hasn’t been proven to improve cognition.
Vitamin B12 – This vitamin is found in soil bacteria and its best source is animal products. B12 is taken to improve energy and focus, especially by vegetarians and vegans. Like folate, B12 lowers homocysteine, but also hasn’t been proven to improve cognition. However, there is a positive correlation between low B12 levels and neurodegenerative diseases as well as cognitive impairment. There are also a small subset of dementias that are reversible with B12 administration. Although B12 hasn’t been proven to improve cognition in people who aren’t deficient, many people do report cognitive enhancement when supplementing B12.
Mind Lab Pro Claims
The top claims for Performance Lab Mind are that it can improve mental focus, memory, reactivity time particularly during stressful situations, and age-related cognitive decline.
Based on the 4 ingredients present, all 4 do play a role in brain health. There are reported studies that display the above mentioned benefits in some people, but most are small in size. Also, for the 2 lesser ingredients – NALT and maritime pine bark extract, the dose may not be enough to produce the benefits.
This product has the potential to improve brain health. This is especially helpful during times of stress and when PS levels are reduced, as in the case of age-related cognitive decline.
However, more studies should be done to determine the effect of all 4 ingredients together and their effect on brain health.
Mind Lab Pro says it helps with:
- Processing speed
- Brain fog
- Mental agility
- Brain protection
- Strategic thinking
Mind Lab Pro Benefits
The minds behind Mind Lab Pro did a good job in terms of coming up with something that has a blend of ingredients that are well-researched (including some that are proven to improve cognition) and natural. Taking 11 supplements in 1 capsule saves time and money when compared to taking all of them individually. Mind Lab Pro also uses the best-absorbed forms of these supplements. In addition, they have a clean label, using a veggie cap and rice as the only filler. Something like this could potentially help some people occasionally as a cognitive enhancer when studying for an exam, taking a test or trying to finish a project by a certain deadline. Mind Lab Pro recommends cycling the supplement by going 5 days on, 2 days off or 4 weeks on, 1 week off.
Performance Lab Mind aims to improve your mental focus, specifically during times of stress and when lacking on sleep. The product’s main ingredient, Cognizin, works to increase the amount of a specific neurotransmitter in the body called Acetylcholine. This neurotransmitter may improve the communication of your brain cells, speed up your reaction time, and enhance your focus.
Mind works to improve short-term memory. It does this by protecting healthy brain cells from damage from free radicals, and encouraging the repair of damaged cells. Free radicals are unstable compounds produced in our body. In excess, they can cause damage to your brain resulting in memory loss. The 2 main ingredients involved in this are Cognizin and Sharp-PS Green.
Improved Blood Flow to Brain
The manufacturers claim this product can enhance blood flow to the brain. This enhanced blood flow works to deliver oxygen, glucose, and nutrients that are necessary for proper brain function. This can create longer-lasting brain energy and focus to reduce mental fatigue, especially after a long day.
Criticism of Performance Mind Lab Pro
Mind Lab Pro took 11 natural supplements that have varying degrees of demonstrated efficacy with respect improving cognition and combined them all together. The interactions between many of these supplements haven’t been studied and could possibly even be dangerous. People have complained of side effects from several of the ingredients in this blend and combining all of them together could increase the chance of experiencing side effects. Moreover, by taking all of these ingredients together in capsule form, you wouldn’t be able to tell which one is doing what. Mind Lab Pro makes the argument that you can return the bottle empty if you’re unsatisfied for any reason, so there’s no risk involved. This is incorrect as there’s a chance you could have a negative reaction to one (or a combination) of the ingredients, which would be a waste of time at the least as you wouldn’t know which ingredient(s) caused it. If you do have a negative reaction, you may be hesitant to try any of the ingredients individually and possibly miss out on one or more that could’ve actually helped you.
It could take a long time to find the right nootropic stack, so if Mind Lab Pro works for you, that would be amazing. That being said, their marketing claims are pretty bold as its creators haven’t studied the effects of all of these ingredients when taken together and how they interact with each other.
Who is it Best for?
Mind Lab Pro is best for people who’ve tried at least a few of its ingredients with good results and want to try a cost-effective way to boost their mental performance. It’s also worth a shot for those who don’t want to try individual supplements and would rather try a blend with well-researched ones. Finally, Mind Lab Pro is best suited for people who aren’t sensitive to supplements, as taking so many cognitive-enhancing ones at once could cause side effects.
Alpha BRAIN is a popular natural nootropic blend with some of the same ingredients and has been proven to improve verbal memory and executive function over 6 weeks. It has mixed reviews, but comes from a reputable company that offers quality supplements.
Then there’s Qualia Mind, which has some of the same and many more ingredients than Mind Lab Pro. Qualia Mind has 28 ingredients, which increases the risk of interactions and side effects. It’s also substantially more expensive. There are more reviews of Qualia Mind online, and although it has a good amount of criticism, the reviews are more positive than negative. Still, the edge goes to Mind Lab Pro if you’re trying to decide between the two because they have less ingredients and a better price. Alpha BRAIN has 12 ingredients and is roughly the same price as Mind Lab Pro, although it’s coming out cheaper with a discount.
Safety & Side Effects
Cognizin is considered possibly safe for up to 90 days of use by mouth. The safety of long-term use is not known.
Side effects are rare, but some may experience headaches, trouble sleeping, diarrhea, abnormal blood pressure, nausea, blurred vision, or chest pain.

To be safe, it is also recommended to avoid this ingredient if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
NALT is “generally recognized as safe” or GRAS, by the Food and Drug Administration. It seems to be safe when taken by mouth in doses up to 68mg per pound of body weight, for up to 3 months.
Reported side effects include nausea, headache, fatigue, and heartburn.
As with the other ingredients, the safety of this during pregnancy or breastfeeding is unknown, therefore it is best to avoid it.
Maritime Pine Bark Extract
Maritime pine bark extract is possibly safe when taken by mouth in doses of 50-450mg daily for up to one year.
Possible side effects include dizziness, stomach problems, headache, mouth sores, and bad breath.

Mind Lab Pro Customer Reviews
There’s aren’t many independent reviews online as Mind Lab Pro stopped selling on Amazon because (according to them) they don’t want their product to appear next to low-quality ones, want to avoid negative reviews by competitors and don’t want want to be constrained in terms of what and/or how much information they can provide.
Mind Lab Pro scored a 3.1/5 on Amazon before discontinuing. The mixed reviews include four that said it didn’t work at all and a couple indicating other nootropic blends are better (Qualia, Genius). One reviewer said it worked and another said although it worked, it was too expensive. Another reviewer called it placebo. One reviewer said it took a week to start working, but is too expensive for what it is. Another said their long-term memories returned on it.
There are some positive reviews on YouTube, but they aren’t very thorough or detailed.
Where to Buy Performance Lab Mind
Performance Lab Mind is only available for purchase online on its official website. As per its manufacturer, they chose not to sell on other third party websites. The manufacturers want to be able to include adequate information about the product and feel they can best do so on their own website.
The cost is around $50 for a one month supply, or $135 for a three month supply. Therefore, you get a better value with the 3-month supply.
It’s going to be hit or miss trying a supplement like this. A few of the ingredients are notorious for side effects and if you do experience them, it’ll be impossible know which one(s) is/are causing an adverse reaction. If you’re looking for something to occasionally help with focus and/or productivity, you can give Mind Lab Pro a shot; however, make sure to check with your doctor first.
