Michael C Hall’s Supplements

Whey Protein

Whey Protein

Hall is naturally slim and he drank protein shakes every day as part of his health regimen for Dexter. Whey protein not only promotes muscle growth, it also helps regulate blood pressure and blood sugar and control inflammation in the body.

Organic flaxseed oil

Flaxseed Oil

Flaxseed oil is another of Hall’s staples. Flaxseed oil is high in a plant-based form of omega-3s which is important if you don’t eat fish. Flaxseed combats inflammation, helps lower cholesterol and may reduce the risk of cancer.

Spirulina

Spirulina

Another ingredient in Hall’s daily shakes was spirulina. Spirulina is a kind of healthy bacteria that is chock-full of nutrients. It is antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and can help regulate blood lipid levels.

Synergy kombucha

Kombucha

Hall also drinks kombucha, a type of fermented tea that contains healthful probiotics and antioxidants that support proper digestion and immune function.

Coconut Water

Hall would sometimes make his shakes with coconut water, or drink it solo. Coconut water contains vitamins and minerals and antioxidant properties. It may help prevent diabetes, kidney stones and heart disease.

Omegas

Hall also uses Udo’s oil which contains essential omega 3s, 6s, and 9s in a ratio of 2:1:1. Udo’s does not come from fish, which is good news for those who cannot or do not consume seafood. Udo’s can help lower cholesterol, and decrease the risk of heart disease and autoimmune diseases.

cinnamon

Cinnamon

Hall is also a fan of cinnamon, not only because it tastes great but also for its powerful medicinal properties. It is antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, improves insulin sensitivity and promotes heart health.

Cayenne

Cayenne

Hall would regularly drink a detox beverage containing lemon juice and cayenne pepper. Cayenne aids digestion, can boost metabolism, reduce hunger and may help lower blood pressure.

Michael C Hall’s Lifestyle

Early Tragedy

Hall had an older sister who died in infancy, and then his father died when he was 11. He says it created a very deep relationship with his mother.

Big Switch

Hall did a one-eighty when he went from playing deeply emotional Shakespearean characters to the role of a serial killer who never shows any feelings.

Serial Killer Savior?

Halls kept his cancer diagnosis a secret from his fellow cast members until the season wrapped, then started treatment the very next day. He says throwing himself into work helped him take his mind off the scary disease.

Don’t Fence Him In

Hall was leery of signing on for another long tv series, and has instead opted to accept shorter commitments, such as miniseries, indie movies and live theatre.

Giving Back

Hall is a spokesperson for the Somalia ‘Feed the People’ aid campaign. He has also worked with the Waterkeeper Alliance which promotes clean water for people around the world.

{

Hall on Losing His Father as a Child

‘There’s no good age, but…Something gets frozen. As you revisit the rest of your life, it’s sort of this slow but hopefully sure crawling out of that frozen moment.’

{

Hall on How Work Saved his Sanity

‘It’s a show that is death-soaked but it’s what I’ve been doing with my life so it feels more vitalizing than anything else.’

{

Hall on Leaving his Dexter Persona Behind

‘A part of you is absorbing it and marinating in it. It takes some time to get it out of your system.’

{

Hall on Self-Hatred

‘I don’t think closeted homosexual morticians have the market cornered on self-loathing or sense of shame.’
