Multi-talented Julianne Hough is famous as a dancer, actress and musician. Sister to professional dancer Derek Hough, she is the youngest of 5 and comes from a long line of performance artists. When she was 10, she and Derek got the opportunity to study in London. She was the only American and youngest dancer to win the Junior World Latin Champion and International Latin Youth Championship at the Blackpool Dance Festival. Hough returned to the US when she was 15 and was soon hired on Dancing With the Stars which she won twice. Her self-titled first country music album debuted at #1 on the Top Country chart in 2007 and she starred in the 2011 remake of Footloose amongst other films. Hough has millions of followers on social media. She is 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 119 lbs.
Julianne Hough’s Diet
Hough says she loves food and is up for anything from tacos to pasta, but she makes an effort to eat clean. She follows a healthy, simple diet full of fresh fruits and vegetables, but also she allows herself one ‘cheat’ day per week. She’s not afraid of carbs or fat and loves to scoop avocados straight from its skin. Hough will have a green juice before her early morning workout, then a filling breakfast of healthy fat and protein from eggs and avocados. A snack might be a piece of fruit or a smoothie made from fruit and nuts. Lunch and dinner both contain a good amount of vegetables and more protein in the form of poultry and fish.

Hough will start her day with a green juice made from cucumber, spinach, kale, celery, green apple, pear, carrots, ginger, lemon and beets.
Breakfast for Hough is often 2 steamed eggs over easy, with sliced tomato and avocado, and tea with stevia and skim milk.
Nuts for Smoothies
For a snack, Hough likes trainer Harley Pasternak’s Apple Pie smoothie, made from raw almonds, an apple, a small banana, plain, fat-free Greek yogurt, almond milk and a dash of cinnamon.
Hough will often have a salad with chicken breast for lunch with olive oil and a squeeze of lemon. Dinner is similar, perhaps baked salmon and sautéed spinach.
Hough drinks 4-6 glasses of water each day.
Cheating, Italian Style

What to Avoid
Hough On Carbs
Everybody is so afraid of carbs — they talk about them in a negative way, like “Carbs make me fat or bloated” — but just pick the right one and have a little bit.
Hough On Cravings
I try to cut myself some slack if I’m being consistent with my nutrition and activity. If I am craving a piece of chocolate, I go for something dark to satisfy the craving.
Hough On Juicing
Whatever’s in my fridge, I’ll just throw whatever’s in.
Hough On Her Cheat Day
I do love my Italian food, and pasta, and pizza.
Hough On diet
I love food!
Julianne Hough’s Fitness Routine
Hough can never get enough dance or intensity, and often takes a one-on-one session with celebrity trainer Tracy Anderson.
Hough Loves Cardio
Unsurprisingly, Hough loves her cardio and does some every day. Sometimes she’ll take a class such as Trampoline Cardio at Body By Simone or spinning at SoulCycle, others she’ll go for a hike out of doors or do a CrossFit session at the beach.
Even on Hough’s ‘rest’ days, she still makes a point to keep moving and says she’ll do 5-minute bursts of activity, such as doing lunges while brushing her teeth.
Hough says that because she is high energy, yoga is good for her and grounds her. She’s a big fan of hot yoga because it allows her muscles a good stretch.
Hough begins her day with a 10-minute breathing exercise called ‘priming’ in which she breathes in and out of her nose 30 times and think of the things she’s grateful for or wants to achieve. Deep breathing has been shown to relieve stress, lower blood pressure and improve memory.
Rise And Shine
Hough likes to get her exercise first thing in the morning. She’ll have her green juice and go.
Hough works out 5 days a week, from 45 minutes up to an hour and a half per session. Even on days when she doesn’t do a formal workout, she’ll incorporate some form of exercise into her day.
Mix It Up
Hough says she gets bored easily and is always switching up her workouts. One day she’ll spin, take a class, or lift weights with a trainer.

Hough On Motivation
Adrenaline is the reason I do what I do.
Hough On Why She Exercises
For me, it’s not necessarily about my physical shape that I’m in. It’s more of an internal shape. I’m just happier, I have more energy, I just feel better when I work out.
Hough On Exercise
Just try to move your body every day.
Hough On Dancing
There is something so rewarding about dancing. It’s almost spiritual — you let loose, you feel free, you get endorphins from the exercise.
Hough On Getting Killer ABS
My go-to pre-bikini flat-ab move is the plank, all different types.
Julianne Hough’s Supplements
Hough mostly avoids refined sugar, but she likes a little sweetness in her smoothies and tea and often adds a little stevia. Stevia can help control weight, and also help manage blood sugar and diabetes.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar offers tons of benefits, from lowering blood sugar and cholesterol to burning belly fat and weight loss to offering immune-boosting effects. Hough will often have a tablespoon mixed with water in the morning.
Julianne Hough’s Lifestyle
Early To Bed
Hough aims for at least 8 hours of sleep a night, from 10 pm to 7 am. Her husband Brooks Laich follows this early to bed, early to rise schedule as well.
All In the Family
Hough’s older brother Derek is also a famous Dancing With the Stars dancer, and all 4 of their grandparents were dancers.
Hough speaks publicly about her struggles with endometriosis in the hope of giving other women courage to seek help for what is for her a debilitating condition and can affect fertility.
The Show Must Go On
While performing on DWTS in 2008, Hough felt abdominal pains. She was rushed to the hospital where she subsequently had her appendix removed. She returned to the competition just a short time later.
Hough says she needs at least an hour each day to be by herself to chill so she doesn’t get overwhelmed.
Hough On Filters
I’m an open book. I have no filter. And sometimes that a bad thing. But at least you know it’s honest.
Hough On Finding Happiness
I think it’s important to be happy before you can make anybody else happy.
Hough On Bullies
I had a hard time with bullying. I ate lunch in the bathroom.
Hough On Dancing With The Stars
A lot of people don’t know this but when DWTS first asked me to be on the show, I said no because I wanted to act and to be taken seriously.
Hough On Sleep
I cannot go to sleep without reading.
