Jimmy Kimmel

Jimmy Kimmel

Comedian
Born: 1967

Jimmy Kimmel grew up in Brooklyn, New York but moved to Las Vegas when he was 9. He was a radio DJ in college and, deciding to go pro at age 21, dropped out of school (but received an honorary degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2013). He eventually settled in LA and working as Jimmy the Sports Guy on The Kevin and Bean Show. Kimmel switched from radio to tv as the game host of Win Ben Stein’s Money and earned a Daytime Emmy for Best Game Show. He was also co-host of The Man Show, billed as ‘an anti-Oprah’ type of show. Just a few years later, he established a successful production company and was asked by ABC to host a late night talk show. Jimmy Kimmel Live! is the network’s longest running late night talk show. He has also hosted the Emmy Awards and the Oscars twice. After his second son was born with a rare heart defect, Kimmel spoke out publicly about the necessity of affordable healthcare. Kimmel is 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighs about 182 lbs.

Jimmy Kimmel’s Diet

Diet Summary

Kimmel calls himself a ‘total foodie’ and didn’t even know how much he weighed until he bought his first scale in 2010. He was unpleasantly surprised to discover he weighed over 200 lbs. He managed to drop almost 30 lbs. by restricting his intake to 2,000 calories per day. He would have 2 protein shakes during the day and a small dinner. But because he loves his food, he moved on to the 5:2 diet which is a form of intermittent fasting. Five days a week, he eats normally. On the remaining two days, calories are restricted to 25% of the usual amount (for Kimmel, this is about 500 calories). By not being restricted as to what he can eat most of the week, he gets to enjoy food without feeling deprived.

Jimmy Kimmel’s Fitness Routine

Weekly Workout Routine

Cellular Work Out

Autophagy is the process of breaking down old cells and building new ones and it only happens when the body is in a fasting state. By not having to constantly work to digest food, your body can clean out the junk and build fresh, new cells.

Exercise the Muscle Between Your Ears

Intermittent fasting is good for your brain. In addition to cleaning and building new cells, it also boosts the production of Human Growth Hormone which stimulates fat burning, improves muscle development and reduces inflammation.

Excellent ‘Exertainment’

Kimmel has recently expanded into the all-important fitness sphere with his ‘Hottie Bodies Humpilates,’ a hybrid fitness form that combines two of Kimmel’s favorite exercises: Pilates and humping.

A Pilates Routine Jimmy Kimmel Wouldn’t Do

Kimmel’s Humpilates is fairly straightforward and involves a simple motion with an exercise ball, but in case you’re more interested in traditional Pilates, here are some classic exercises:

The Hundred: On a yoga mat, lie flat on back, legs extended straight up (or bent if hamstrings are tight). Lift head, neck and shoulders off mat and look toward your navel. Pump the arms up and down vigorously, inhaling for a count of 5 and exhaling for a count of 5 to 100 total breaths.

Roll-ups: Lie on back, legs out straight, arms extended overhead. Pull navel toward spine to get back as flat on floor as possible. Inhale and brings arms overhead as you curl chin in toward chest. Exhale and roll your body up, reaching for your toes. Keep your legs on the floor and do not use momentum. Inhale and start to roll down slowly, still with legs on floor. Exhale when you are about halfway (at the difficult point). Ten roll-ups equal 50 regular sit-ups.

Leg half-circles: Lie face up, arms by sides, one knee bent, the other extended straight up into the air. Circle the straight leg out, down and back to starting position, taking care to keep your back flat on floor. Do for 30 seconds. Reverse direction. Repeat with opposite leg.

Single leg stretch: Lie flat on back. Bend knees in toward chest, hands on shins. Extend one leg straight out, keeping low back on mat. Bend and extend legs, while tapping knee and ankle with hands, alternating sides.

{

Kimmel On His Inspiration

‘Some people have a photo of Daniel Craig or Hugh Jackman pinned up on the fridge for inspiration. I have Gandhi.’

{

Kimmel On The Importance Of Exercise

‘Here in Hollywood, being in shape is more important than being alive.’

Kimmel On His Humpilates Workout

‘Turn your cardiovascular system into a partio-vascular system.’

Jimmy Kimmel’s Supplements

multivitamin

multivitamin

Kimmel doesn’t admit to taking any supplements, but if you plan to severely restrict your food intake multiple times a week, it may be hard to hit the USRDA for all the essential nutrients, so a multivitamin is a good idea.

Magnesium

Magnesium

Magnesium performs hundreds of functions in the body and studies show that many people are low in this important mineral.

 calcium

calcium

Besides keeping bones strong, calciumcan help with weight loss.

Potassium

Potassium

Potassium is another essential mineral that helps stabilize blood sugar and strengthen muscles.

Vitamins A

Vitamins A and D3

Vitamins A and D3can improve insulin resistance, which helps you feel less sluggish when you aren’t eating your usual amount.

vitamins B1

vitamins B1 and B5

vitamins B1 and B5 can reduce fatigue on fasting days. Vitamin B3is used to metabolize fat, lower cholesterol, and support liver health.

 Choline

Choline

Choline is another B vitamin that helps the body burn fat more efficiently. This is important because when the body runs out of carbs to burn which is common with intermittent fasting, it switches to burning fat.

Jimmy Kimmel’s Lifestyle

Sleep Disorder

Kimmel says he has narcolepsy, a disorder in which a person may fall asleep suddenly doing any kind of activity. Kimmel controls it with meds, but says he likes being close to sleep all the time.

Kimmel is involved with charities that hit close to home, such as the Mighty Oakes Heart Foundation which helps families of children with heart defects. He also held a charity drive to raise money for ALS research when one of his staffers was diagnosed with the progressive neurodegenerative disorder (aka Lou Gehrig’s disease).

{

Kimmel On Letterman

His show was just so weird and different; I’d never seen anything like it. I didn’t know anyone with a sense of humor like that.’
