Gwyneth Paltrow is the daughter of actress Blythe Danner and producer & director Bruce Paltrow. She was born in LA but at age 11, the family moved to Massachusetts where her father worked in summer theatre, and also where Gwyneth started acting. For college, she started at UC Santa Barbara majoring in art history, but dropped out to pursue a career in acting. She won an Oscar for her starring role in Shakespeare in Love awards, and a Golden Globe for her role in Glee, and has been nominated for many others. She has written cookbooks and one on health and beauty, and she has her own line of vitamin supplements. She is on the board of the charitable organization called the Robin Hood Foundation with the goal of alleviating poverty in New York City. Paltrow was named one of People magazines Most Beautiful People in the World in 1998. In 2008, she launched a lifestyle website called Goop which is as popular as it is controversial. She has 2 children with her ex, Chris Martin from Coldplay, and is currently married to Brad Falchuk. Paltrow is 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs about 132 lbs.
Gwyneth Paltrow’s Diet
Paltrow strives to eat clean: fresh, organic produce and animal protein are her mainstays, but she admits to having a weakness for refined carbs. Her website has been under fire for promoting more than one oddball detox diet, including the gallbladder flush and a goat’s milk cleanse, but she says that while she used to do a lot of these cleanses, she’s no longer a fan and now takes a more relaxed approached to eating. She’ll be strict at breakfast and lunch, and have whatever she’s in the mood for at dinner. For her annual cleanse (the only one she says she does these days), she eliminates just about everything except fresh fruit and vegetables.

Smooth Wake Up
Paltrow’s breakfast is usually a smoothie made with almond milk, coconut oil, protein powder, and Moon Juice dust.
Paltrow will have a salad and protein at lunch, and go very light on the carbs to try to help stave off the mid-afternoon slump.
Paltrow says she usually eats ‘whatever she wants’ for dinner, although it still tends to be healthy, such as organic meat and vegetables.
Paltrow’s indulgences include cheese and crackers, baguettes and wine. Pretzels are a more low-brow pleasure.
What to Eat
Organic Animal Protein
What to Avoid
High Fructose Corn Syrup
Paltrow On Her Clean Eating Diet
[I eat] good proteins and lots of vegetables and not too much grain or sugar, and nothing baked.
Paltrow On When She Falls Off The Wagon
But at the same time, you want deliciousness, you want a fun life—pleasure!
Paltrow On Detox Diets
I’m basically never cleansing. Only if I’m guinea pigging something for the website. Or, I try to do one good cleanse a year.
Paltrow On Toxins
I believe the combination of toxic load, the modern environment and nutritional deficiency makes our bodies more vulnerable to breaking down.
Paltrow On Refined Food
I really love white carbs, which is not great for optimizing your health and your energy.
Paltrow On Processed Cheese
I’d rather smoke crack than eat cheese from a tin.
Gwyneth Paltrow’s Fitness Routine
Paltrow exercises 6 days a week for 2 hours a day. She is a fan of the Tracy Anderson Method and will use her DVDs when she can’t work out with Tracy personally.
Paltrow’s trainer focuses on both large and small muscles to get a toned, compact body, rather than a bulky one.
Zen With Gwen
Paltrow uses an infrared sauna, practices Transcendental Meditation and does yoga for mind-body balance.
Mix It Up
Paltrow’s trainer will mix things up to avoid hitting a plateau as the body gets used to the same routine.
Some Like It Hot
Paltrow raises the room temperature to 80 degrees, per her trainer’s instructions, to help burn more calories.
Along with her Tracy Anderson Method, Paltrow will also do cardio dance to keep her muscles toned, long, and lean.

Paltrow On Exercise
It’s worth it to me to do that extra exercise so I can eat what I want and not think about it.
Paltrow On Exercise, Take II
I like feeling good, and I know I feel my best when I exercise.
Paltrow On Exercise, Take III
You can’t bottle a great workout.
Paltrow On Maintaining One’s Figure After 35
You either starve yourself or you eat and you do serious cardio. But there’s no free ride.
Paltrow On Cryotherapy
I haven’t tried cryotherapy yet because I’m kind of scared to, but they say it’s great for pain. Our diets are so full of inflammatory foods that I think we need to do increasingly extreme things to combat it.
Gwyneth Paltrow’s Supplements
Despite her clean eating, Paltrow says a daily multivitamin is still part of her health regimen because we can still be deficient in nutrients due to soil depletion.
Paltrow likes berberine because it can lower blood sugar, help with weight loss and improve heart health.
Paltrow also mixes coconut oil into her morning smoothie. Coconut oil promotes fat burning and its medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) can help rebalance blood lipid levels and improve heart health.
Glutathione is an antioxidant that helps remove toxins from the body. It supports immune function and boosts energy.
Paltrow is also a fan of fish oil which is a powerful anti-inflammatory, brain booster and promotes overall health.
Paltrow starts her day with a smoothie that includes vanilla mushroom protein powder to help her feel fuller, longer.
Adaptogens help the body deal with stress. Paltrow’s supplements contain the Ayurvedic herbs Ashwagandha, Holy Basil and Bacopa.
Gwyneth Paltrow’s Lifestyle
Paltrow coined the term meaning a healthy amount of sleep. She herself gets at least 7-8 hours, and ideally 10.
Paltrow spent some time in Spain as a teenager and also a summer in Paris, and she speaks Spanish and French quite well.
Deep Research for Shallow
Paltrow wore a fat suit out to a bar as part of her research for the role of playing an obese woman in the film Shallow Hal. She said people refused to make eye contact and were rude to her, and that she was saddened by the injustice toward overweight people.
No Ex-Spence Spared
For high school, Paltrow attended Spence, an exclusive all-girls school in New York City.
Paltrow suffered from postpartum depression following the birth of her second child, Moses. She also nearly died due to the miscarriage of her third child.
Grandiose Gift Guide
Paltrow has some pretty wild ideas on her Goop website, including 18 karat gold dumbbells (price tag: $125K), a recipe for ‘spirit truffles’ (that nourish harmony and ESP), and a $90,000 trip to outer space.
Paltrow On Sleep
Sleep plays such a powerful role in determining your appetite and energy levels that I believe it should be your first priority—even before you think about your diet.
Paltrow On Beauty
Beauty, to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin. That, or a kick-ass red lipstick.
Paltrow On Life
I realized life is so short and precious, you should do things that make you feel inspired, that push you and teach you something. I’d rather not have a big house, a huge closet of clothes, diamonds and a private plane, and instead a body of work that I’m proud of.
Paltrow On Guinea-Pigging
At Goop, they call me “GP the guinea pig” because I’ll try anything.
Paltrow On Simplicity
The simpler things are, the happier they are.
Paltrow On Marriage
I try to remember as I hear about friends getting engaged, that it’s not about the ring and it’s not about the wedding. It’s a grave thing, getting married. And it’s easy to get swept up in the wrong things.
